Hello Anniedaze! I read a post a little while ago, where you were asking about an Epidural. I know that you posted the question to White Beard, but I thought it might be a good idea for the members to find it here.
I have had at least 3 to 4 of these in my neck and 3 or so in my lower back. While I'm no expert on them, I can share what I experienced with them. There will probably be several members here that can share their experiences as well, including White Beard that you posed the question to.
Generally, the Epidural is loaded up with a very powerful steroid, with the idea it will reduce any swelling around the Spinal Cord, thus relieving any pain caused by it.
For some, it can provide either long or short term relief, and for others there is no relief at all. I had several in my neck area, and feel like I had some success, but then again, I had several in my lower back, with little or no relief.
Most insurance company's will allow 3 per calendar year, and it is generally recommended to get at least two within a two to three week period when a person starts the process. That being said, you should really so at the recommendation of your Dr.
The process can be painful, but some clinics will offer the choice of sedation. I have had it both ways, and I will always take the sedation from now on if it is offered.
I did not mean to butt in on a question posed to White Beard, but I thought it might be nice to post the question here to where the members might find it easier. Lets hope that White Beard, and others with experience in this area will chime in and add their two cents worth on the subject.
Good luck to you, and I sincerely hope you find some relief soon.
