Centerline

A bit off topic (actually way off topic), but I need to know the pros and cons off a centerline.  Need to make a decision in exactly 12 hours 2 minutes.  Maybe one off you guys can advise.

Morgoth, are you referring to the procedure connected to a colonoscopy? If so my understanding is it is necessary in some cases and can be very helpful. I do not know what thye cons would be other than the normal cons of a medical procedure. I was reading about this very subject for personal reasons and am not sure myself. I know they also use such a procedure to gain a virtual image of not just the colon but other organs as well.

You mean a Central Veneous Line Catheter. They can be very helpful to a patient that is getting allot of IV medications, such as Chemo Therapy, Parenteral nutrition, and a host of other IV therapies! They are usually put in the neck or chest and it is positioned in the largest vein just before entering the heart! The insertion is a sterile procedure, and the port site has to be taken care of! You might want to Google it! There can be some complications if it is not adequately maintained, properly flushed and impeccable cleaning of the catheter site! These devices can be a real blessing if properly placed and maintained. But you have to be careful with them and they do require some very specific care! I have helped with the insertion of these Central Veneous Line Catheters and have changed the dressing on them and also hung the IV meds and fluids and PTN that is put into the central line catheters. Nurses that have to give patients IV therapy usually love them in a patient!

I have had central lines put in my neck on several occasions, as well as one put in through the artery in my wrist. I have also had pic lines several times as well. If I can answer any specific questions about either, I would be happy to.
