Dx'd with Polymyalgia Rheumatica

Went to my Pain Management doctor yesterday and once again saw the physicians assistant.  She did dx me with PMR but with some hesitance since my sed rates weren't elevated.  I did take information from reliable sources where it is found that 20% of patients with PMR will show no elevated inflammation rates.  I know I have other conditions but in the last 3 months things have gotten progressively worse (bed ridden on days) and I am showing all the classic signs of PMR plus I had excellent results from the steroid trial.  As soon as I got down to 10mg per day though the symtoms started coming back within 12 hrs.

She is starting me on 15mg for 4wks then we will start weaning down slowly from there.  I did make an appt with a rheumatologist for May 27th (she was highly recommended by a friend) for a second opinion.  I also asked to start weaning off the oxycontin since I have had little pain relief since starting it.  I'm up to 30mg 3xdaily and really don't want to go any higher.  She is starting me at 20mg 3xday for 4wks, using the oxycodone if the withdrawls symptoms get too bad.  Wish me luck!

I will call my lawyer today with the new dx to see what he wants to do as far as my SSDI appeal goes.  Pete, have you heard anything new regarding your appeal?

Hi Jag, sorry to hear about this new stuff. I really hope they can get it figured out and get you on a propper med regiment! No> No word from SSD yet. I just have a feeling I'm gonna get the thumbs down again and am trying to ready myself for the regection! I don't think you will have any withdrawl syptoms by lowering your oxi. Thats not much of a drop. My new doc dropped me from 90mgs to 45mgs of oxicodone in a month. I hurt worse but no w/d at all!! I know everyone is different but I really thought I'd experiance some sort of w/d because I'd been on oxi for so long and always went up in doses never down!! I like this new doc but I hope she knows what she's doing and not just afraid of the powers that be about prescribing narc's, ya know?

I'm sorry you have yet another diagnosis on top of everything else, but I am glad that you have a good dr. that will help you.  I wish you good luck with the rheumatologist.  I hope you're having a lpn.

     Good morning *hugg* It is always good to hear from you. How are your pain levels today? Are you back to low pain now that you are evened out at 15mg steroids? I sure hope so. The steroids have been such a blessing for you. You have been in severe pain for a very long and it is about time you had some real results!

 

     I know I shouldnt be happy you have another diagnosis to deal with. But, I am greatly relieved knowing you are finally making head way towards better quality of life. I hope that the relief is long term and not short lived.

 

     I can tell you feel very positive about the new rheumatologist. I hope she is able to take your needs and diagnosis seriously. The last thing you need is to take another step backwords. So, lots of prayers that she is able to help!

 

     I hope you continue to have good days. It must be great to have your days back again! You are in our hearts ehre.
