My mom is in the Hospital, she just had a knee replacement yesterday. and I called her this morning she was in a
lot of pain and I guess she was'nt ready for that, she wanted me up there but it's not in our budget for now and
she'd probably not do her physical therapy if I was there...I'd like to be, but...
anyways Prayers for my mom would be nice...

Also, she does not have a clue as to how painful it would be for me, flying or driving up there...
I'm in Texas, she's in Michigan over 1,250 miles one way, I sent her a basket from edible arrangements for her to get on Friday
as she's supposed to be out of the hospital on Thursday...I hope I did good in that...

My heart goes out to you and your mom! I know how that goes, living away from family, you want to be there with them when stuff like this happens, but it is expensive to travel and allot of the times you just can not make it. I have been there and done that more times than I want to even think about! It is TOUGH!!! My Prayer go out to your Mom I do hope the pain gets better and she has a very quick and successful recovery! I haved known a few people that have had knee replacements, and although the recovery can be rough on some, they all have been extremely happy with the results in the end!!

I will keep both of you in my Prayers!

Oh Char, it must be hard being so far away from here when she is in pain and in need of some TLC. Hard for both of you. Hopefully as the days go by she'll improve remarkably.

When I was in hospital the lady next to me had a knee replacement and she said it was just the first 2 days that were bad, after that she was amazing, first on a walker then onto a cane and then home. I was stunned as she was 81 but quite a determined woman.

Of course I'll put your Mom on my healing list but lets hope she improves at the same rate. Just keep calling her, its so dreadfully boring in hospital, anything to break your day helps. I'm sure she'll understand you can't be there physically with your own problems, best wishes, golitho

sending good thoughts and prayers your way Char....I hope your mom makes a quick recovery with as little pain as possible. I hope she understands too why you can't be there...it's so tough to be far away.

     Gosh I am sorry your mom is in so much pain! She will be in our prayers here tonight. You are so loving and caring, I can imagine it hard on you to know she is having such a hard time. Stay strong! I hope you have a few moments to rest, I know you have been through an awfull lot these last few months.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your Mom Char. My sisterinlaw had it done and she had a pretty rough time but said it was worth it later on.

Sending healing thoughts to you and your Mom. If the pain continues, perhaps you could ask her if you could speak with her doctor and ask him to help her out a little more with the pain. I don't know how your Mom is, but when my Mom was alive she would complain to me about the pain, but would want to act so strong when it came to telling her doctor or the nurses anything.

Chart, So sorry to hear your Mom is having a hard time! It must be hard for you not being able to go see her but hopefully she will understand. I'm very close to my Mom and know how hard it is when they live far away. I only have her here w/ me for half the year and the other half I worry so for her! I'll be sending prayers for her and please know that you did a really nice thing sending her a basket of goodies! I know I'd much rather get something good to eat than flowers!

Hi Chart,

I had both knees replaced in 06, 6 weeks apart.  The initial surgical pain is a bear but I bet your Mom will feel alot better by the 3rd day.  The pain of the bone on bone is much worse then the post surgical pain.   Physical Therapy is painful because the quad muscles have to be rebuilt and getting full range of movement can be grueling!  It took about 6 months for the new knees to feel like mine but you soon forget that you ever had knee problems tongue    My Dad had both of his done last year and he's 80, he did GREAT!  He walked around for 12 yrs. before he consented to surgery, now he's travels, shops and is enjoying his life!

Don't be to hard on yourself, today will be better for your Mom!!

Hey Chartreux sorry to hear your Mom's having difficulty , But take heart . My Mom at 85 just had hip replacement surgery , they had her up with a walker the next day , but of course it takes a little longer the older you are , but it can be done for sure .Although the knee is a little trickier because theres more posibbilities of movement .I'll surely pray for you and your Mom , Best of luck ! she has low potassium levels and the are giving her 3 pints of blood..and she's been up and has had videos of do's and don'ts for her knee...
I was going to talk to her but the doctor came into her room and someone on her floor has been yelling and screaming, so I don't
think she is sleeping good....I sure hope things improve...so now I'm getting a little worried...

How nscary for you both. Low potassium, at least she is in the right place and they are obviously monitoring her. But I bet you feel even more like going to her.

Makes it very hard. I always take ear plugs into hospital to cope with all the night noises of bells ringing and nurses checking up on people. May be she could ask a nurse if they have any on the ward or ask a visitor to buy her some. It always so hard to sleep in hospitals.

Thank you all! My mom is doing better but still in a lot of pain and not doing her PT, so I'm a little mad at her...
She needs to do that PT and I kinda hope her physical Therapist lets her know it will help with her pain...
and she didn't ask if she could use heat and has only been using her ice pack...so I'm just not going
to call her today as we'd argue and she'd go into a crying fit, to get her way...and I'm not feeling good..
I woke up in the middle of the night last night so dehydrated...I don't know why??? I'm drinking plenty of water...
and this Texas heat is hard to tolerate...it thunders here but no rain, bummer...anyways sorry for the ranting it's not like me...
I'm just frustrated in so many ways, thanks for letting me vent...

Char I know its frustrating but when she goes in to see her dr he may very well chew her out, sounds like she may need it too. He will know what she is doing and what she isn't doing. Best thing you can do is just let her be-she is going to do what she wants not you. I have been thru it with both of my parents and I let the the dr chew on them, lol.

Hi Char,

I'm sending some prayers and well wishes for your mother. It sounds like it will rough for a while until she gets going with her PT a learns how to use the new knee. I hope that the process isn't too painful for her.

First, it's not your bad! You're doing nothing wrong. You have a lot to deal with for yourself, and now concerns about your mother add more stress. But your concerns are normal and so is some venting. That's why we're here!

I have to agree with straydog that your Mom is going to probably do (or not do) what she wants, and hopefully a doctor of hers will catch it and say something. Otherwise she'll just have a harder time, but it will be her choice to go that route. It's always hard to watch people we care about have their challenges, but I think you're wise enough to know that you can do it for her. You have to take care of yourself.

So please try to give yourself some TLC in all of this!

Please do not feel bad or guility, your mom is a big girl now, and if she is not doing what she is suppose to do, then shw will just have to pay the piper for it, and that is not your fault! You know you have your own life to worry about and taking care of, and looking out for yourself is not being selfish or anything like that! So you should not feel guility about that either! I know it is hard for you, it is always hard to see a loved one having problems, and difficulities, But your responsibility only goes so far, so please be easy on yourself, come and vent all you want to us and don't ever feel bad about that! We care about you and we are all here to support you. Please do take care of yourself though!

Good morning Chart,
I hope this a.m. finds you in better spirits and low pain. As usual everyone else chimed in before me and have given you so much support! Well let me throw my leg over the saddle too and let you know I'm thinking about and praying for you and your mom. I kinda know what your going through as my Mom> 83 wont listen to me either. It's so frustrating!!!
