Welcome to the Healing Well Chronic Pain Forum, I am sorry that you have had to go through all that, and I must say I think that your Doctor that prescribed your pain med originally is a real piece of work! If he is willing to prescribe these type of pain meds he should darn well be aware of what they can do to a person, and should be willing to help a person get off of them when they are no longer needed or wanted. How dare he treat you that way! He should not be practicing medicine with the way he treated you! When ever you are put on narcotic meds, for long periods of time, at the very least your body becomes physically dependent on them, just as your body does with many other medications, steroids ( prednisone) meds for high PB and many heart medication. In just about all cases you cannot just stop taking them, you have to be carefully and slowly weaned off of them! I really am sorry, that you were treated that way!
With that said I am glad that you are now getting proper treatment! There are a few people on this forum that are using Suboxone for the treatment of pain. I know in the past forum members had posted about it, and like most things it works well for some and not for others, but that applies to just about all pain meds, I take Oxcontin, but there are some folks that cannot tolerate it, or it just doesn't relieve their pain, so they have to take something else. Everyone is so different, and how they react to different pain medications! You see, what you decribed as "high feeling" and "spacey spells" I have never felt that way on my pain medication that I am on now, a long time ago when they had me on short lasting Vicoprofen, I use to have that type of feeling, and I hated it, but when they put me on the long lasting Oxycontin, I did not have any of that type of feeling, just relief from pain. However like many of the other medications that I am on, I am physically dependent on this medication to control my pain, and if I miss a dose or two, my body definitely lets me know about it! I am happy for you that your surgery helped relieve your pain, ( at least part of it) and you are getting good pain relief with taking suboxone, and counseling and help for your other problems. Depression is usually a constant companion with Chronic Pain, and many of us with chronic pain are on some type of antidepressant too.
Anyway I again Welcome you to our forum and our family here, I hope that you will stick around and become an active member of our family, I don't think you will find a better group of caring and compassionate people any where on the internet than what we have right here!
