The price of beauty!!

I hate those sinks! Those and the lounge-back chairs. They are not very ergonomically enginnered.

The price for beauty --- From shoes that hurt our feet, bras, (lol it's true!) and other beauty hinderences that we make ourselves go through is preposterous! But when I look in the mirror and see my face with make-up or notice that I actually BRUSHED my hair today, well...that just makes me happy to think I did it in spite of the pain or better yet TO SPITE the pain.

Just look at it that way.
And I bet your hair looks awesome! So feel good about that and don't let the pain get to you too much!

Oh, wow, yep I'm with Splashdancer and others on this. Eleanor hit the nail on the head - those sinks! And yes, even the chairs that are supposed to be "comfortable" that are anything but.

My hair hasn't been cut since last fall, and I have some special hair scissors that were my mother's that I keep toying with using! My hair isn't quite as long as Splash's but it's getting there, mostly because I don't have the $$ to keep paying for hair cuts. Too bad some of us don't live closer and we could make some attempts at doing eachother's hair while being mindful of our pain. Now how we'd look afterward is another matter entirely, but I bet it would be unique!

I hope you can get that kink out of your neck tonight when you get home from work, and that it's not something that sticks around for awhile. Maybe you can have a talk with your stylist before your next treatment and figure out some other positions so you don't have to go through this all the time.

But I do bet it looks great - one small pleasure out of the experience!

Hi Hopegirl,

I had to laugh as well - partly at your post, but mostly at my memory of my last "professional" haircut. There was no way I could bend my neck backwards, but I can lean forward, so I knelt on the chair, facing the sink and leaned forward so the stylist could wash my hair that way. Of course it wasn't until later in the day that I realized how that must have looked to anyone who came in (the sinks are in clear site when you're sitting waiting). All they would have seen was my butt as I was leaning over....well, that started the giggles for me.

I agree with the others...what is simple and normal and easy for others is often such a challenge for us. I have no choice but to find the humour in these situations - life is too short to cry about it.

     I am so glad you were able to get yourself a pampered. Finding a good hair stylist is important, no doubt. I have a lady that I see in albuquerque and she great. I wash my hair at home, wrapp it up and get down to see her. She has me on risers and chair as high as it goes because my hair getts trimmed in long layers to the small of my back with face frame. I really lucked out when I found her. She is a blessing. But she always says her arms are tired when she is done. I try to come in just before her lunch break or end of the day. She is a chronic pain patient too. She has problems in her thoratic.

 

     I really hope that you are doing better today, though I fear you probably arnt. I am so sorry you had to start out your week in a full flare. *hugg* Please, know you are in our hearts and prayers.

Glad you're feeling better today!

I stopped going to the beauty parlor a few months ago....I found out on the lupus forum that hair coloring is bad for lupus (something about the chemicals?) so I'm now finding out how much gray is in my hair! I hadn't seen my natural hair color for decades, LOL!

It's not too bad yet, definitely gray hairs here and there but mostly still brown. I will have to get it cut eventually and I'm not looking forward to it...I have trouble with my neck at the sink too! Maybe washing it myself (per Dani) and going in with wet hair is the way to go!
