Hello everyone,

Finally after almost 1.5 years I (think) I have found the right combination of medication to take care of my intractable neck pain.....

In the past I have been very resistant to using medication and at one point stopped everything for about 1.5 months.... I have come to the conclusion that this is what I need to do in order to function on a daily basis...
I have at one point taken Mobic and Celebrex..... I just found a partial script of Celebrex and took the medication for about 16 days and... boy... what a difference it made... I ran out two days ago .... that along with Opana worked fantastic!

I am going to ask my PM Dr. to again prescribe me a NSAID but was wondering everyone's thoughts on them.... side effects, cost... what are the differences... etc.

Right now I am paying almost $1000 a months for three of my scripts... I can't remember the costs of the Celebrex or Mobic...

I LOVE Celebrex! I had to stop taking it for a while though because it was messing with my other health issues and I can feel all the familiar pain coming back. The main thing is to be sure to take any Nsaid with food to avoid any stomach issues.

If you need to be on long term NSAIDS (I have taken them for 15 years) you may also want to take prilosec or similar to provide some ulcer protection.
I love them-they actually reduce the inflamation which reduces pain and prevents damage no other pain medication does that.
Celebrex is one of the more expensive NSAIDS I take Sulindac-one of the cheapest.

Drake that is awesome that you have found the right combination, not many do. My sisterinlaw is on Celebrex and she swears by it. She has tried many different ones and it seems to work the best. I am unable to take any of them anymore.I do know it is on the pricey side. I hope it is something you will be able to keep on taking.

Wow.. thank you so much for the responses.... I was only aware of Celebrex and Mobic... I had no idea of the others... I am going to research right now as I have a appointment with my PM Dr tomorrow morning!

Please talk to your doc but I'm not sure how safe it is to be taking multiple NSAID's at the same time. Certainly one at a time they can be great (still some risk, but limited) but by effectively doubling the dose I'm not sure whether you might run into issues with bleeding disorders or ulcers. Definitely should talk to your doc about that.
I think usually it's fine to take some extra NSAID's (under doctor's care) once in a while, but not sure it's so safe long term. Things like Prilosec can help, but they can cause their own set of issues. There are prescription alternatives, but insurance won't always cover them to "prevent ulcers" so check first if you go that route.

You might also check the manufacturer's websites to see if they have any coupons for what you're prescribed. A lot of times the prescription NSAID companies are very competitive and will offer coupons to new or returning patients. Some are only for one month, others are for multiple months up to a year. Might not work out for you, but worth checking. Also, if you start back on them & don't get any coupons at first, maybe check back a few months later to see if any are posted. They tend to be pretty common.

Just don't order them from Canada or anything trying to save money. There were a bunch of people who were recently hospitalized around here for buying what they thought was a brand-name NSAID. It had some other stuff in it that the brand didn't & people got very, very sick almost to the point of death. Turned out they all bought from the same Canadian website. Ironically, the company wasn't even legal to sell meds in Canada. DEA has cracked down on that particular site, but please find other ways to save money.

Also, you might ask if your doctor has any samples to offer you (there were major cutbacks for a while, but the reps are slowly starting to return). Sometimes they can give you a couple weeks up to a couple months worth of samples. I know a year or so ago I got samples of Mobic. It didn't really help me, but it didn't have side effects either. I think my doc gave me 6 weeks worth of samples.

If cost is an issue your doctor may also be able to give you samples-though usually of the newer stuff.
Arthro tex is a new one out now. My doc is able to get as many sample of things like that as she wants so some of her patients get a full year worth of samples. (not all at once).

Thank you for replying Frances... I never said anything about taking multiple NSAID's... I am looking to get a script for just one... I stated that I had before tried Mobic and Celebrex but not at the same time....

Thanks Sjkly.... I will check out Arthro.....

I did find out that for a month month supply Celebrex would be about $200 and Mobic about $100 mad

Oh both are pricey, I knew Celebrex would be, kind of surprised about Mobic, it is available in a generic I believe.

Mobic (melaxocam is available in generic and is much less then 100.
