Dear Elenor,
Good morning *hugg* Hopefully you are having a nice lazy morning right now. I know I am. ...though come to think of it I probably look really silly in eeyore p-jamas and no teeth..... Who cares! Im taking it easy today! Hopefully, you are too *hugg*
Did I ever tell you about the first pain management doctor I was referred to by my primary care in the beginning? Well! This one was a peice of work!
...I had a scary incendent in my back yard and there was no denying that whatever was going on in my back was getting serious. So, I went down to see my primary care and he sent me to a "Pain management doctor" waaay down in albuquerque (I live in a tiny town 1.5 hours away). So, I get there and this guy breezes in, starts pushing really hard on my spine all the while saying "pain is a part of getting older" (I was 27) and I literally had to swollow down vomit he was pressing so hard. He didnt order a single test, no blood test, no images, nothing! Then he says "Obviously there is nothing wrong with you.". No kidding.
I just as calm as apple pie said "I wish that were the case. But I didnt drive 1.5 hours to see you so you could try to convince me nothing is wrong." He laffed at me. Not they was my husband or friends giggle at me. Just a rather spooky, deliberate laff. So, I said "thank you for your time. Have a pleasant day." Then left.
I stopped off at my primary cares office and he orders X rays on the spot, blood work, you name it. I spent entire afternoon there. The girls were fine though, thank goodness the staff helped with snacks and activities.
Any case, I had to go back down to the same office to see someone known as a spine specialist that same night. In the same office as "Mr. Smug" after closing hours. The new doctor begins treating me right away. They are all caring and kind as can be.
When I was getting wheeled in for one of my cortisteroid series (then it was only a series of 6) Mr.Smug asks to talk with me. In front of everyone he apologizes. He tells me how terribly sorry he is. Inside I wanted to BURST and tell him exactly how many ways he could could take a leap. But, I didnt. I just said that "I understand.... But, please, do some tests before treating anyone like that ever again." It only took a simple x ray for the doctors to see that something was terribly wrong with my spine.
He walked with me the whole way into the procedure room. Told me all about his daughter and how angry he would be if someone treated her the way he treated me. I did want to talk, to know more about him. But, I had a horrible case of the blues that day and didnt feel like chatting. Eventually he went away. The assistants and nurses talk about him for a bit, but I didnt feel like re hashing out his apologies. I had too much on my mind.
I guess we all run into a "Mr. Smug" at some point. I wish they didnt exist. But they do. For what ever reason there is always a nurse over stepping her boundries. Always a doctor that forgetts his pourpose. Always a nosey receptionist that forgetts you are far too sick to be chatty.... I think though, we all have to remember that we pay them. They don't pay us. They certinaly don't struggle to pay our monthly insurance payments.
My "motto sentence" when I run into someone who is over stepping their boundries is "I have about 1000 things I would rather do and spend my hard earned money on."
Most of all I am terribly sorry you were treated so badly. They have just wasted valuable time and resources that you cannot afford to loose any more of. I know this will likly be costly to fix and for that I am sorry. I do hope you can find a new doctor without too much of a hassle... though likly this doctor has caused a month long headache you really don't deserve to have to deal with! Hang in there and Stay Strong!
*hugg*
