Difference in Fentanyl patches

Hi everyone. Sorry I havent been around but I hope this message finds you alll well and pain free!

I have been doing "ok" managing with what I have.

My question is this:

I usually get the

 patches that do not have the fel in them. But My pharmcy gave me 2 manufacturers and now I just put on the gel one.

I didn't notice a difference. I think the main thing is that the one is harder to abuse.
However, like any generics, there can be differences from one to another -- or even with the same generic manufacturer from one batch to another (though that's less common).

Your pharmacist should be able to give your more info if you ask.

I am not familiar with them myself.....however, I know when my sister had the gel ones and was running a fever it released the gel to quickly! Made her sick and the patch only lasted one day instead of 3! Anyway.....that is all I know about them!

I don't notice a difference, but my pharmacist said to be careful about becoming overheated or running a fever. As in no hot tubs, hot baths, or strenuous activites that would cause a significant rise in body temperature because it could release the medication quickly. Which is what Beckay just said as well. I would call your pharmacist and see if they have any information for you.

Obviously the 'gel pack patches' are larger than the 'non-gel version'. This makes it easier for the gel-packs to slip and fall off. Given the size difference, I was also prone to develop rashes under the larger patches.

The patches may look different, but do the same thing. the reason one has no fentynol showing is some crazy people actually open the pouch and ingest the fentynol
therefore they have come up with the other. I like the smaller patch as you never have to worry about them tearing giving you a massive amount in your system, maybe the people who ingest it like that kind of high but I don't even like getting drunk. I hope this answers your question

Hi Merry, I've tried two different patches, the durogesic ones that release fentenyl kept falling off me, so I'd have to use strapping tape over the top of them to keep them on, now I'm on the Norspan which release buprenorphine. I like these patches they last a week instead of 3 days, every 3 days was a pain to remember when to change them all the time. Weekly is good. Also they have a stronger adhesive so they don't peel off as easily but I do get a small rash from them.
Effects wise I haven't noticed much difference, they both seem to take a while to fully build up in your system but once you're there it takes out my background pain. I still need BT meds but feel much happier on these than the tramadol I'd been on.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I am on fentanyl patches.

The one with the gel seems to last longer. But other than pain control it is teh same as the non gel ones.

I guess I was hoping that the gel ones would be so much better as my pain levels are still kinda high (7) for having these and BT meds. I am just afraid to rick the boat and tell my pm docs.
