 Hello everyone been awhile since ive been around..hope u all r having a reasonably LPD....as some of u know..some of my back problems i have been experiencing..i went thru the spinal injections last Tuesday..now is thrusday and im not impressed so far with the outcome...but keepin open mind that im worse because of pushin n shovin n injections ...that n wk or so pain level will come down some if not..uncertain what will be next step...I see PMD again oct so back to waitin game...life with chonic pain seems to always be a waitin game n that sucksss..anyhow not goin to whine today i made a promise to me...lol...sends a pray for u all for LP as well...take care n god bless

Hello Brenda.  Riccardo here.

I was doing OK with my back pain, then went to a pain specialist who gave me first an injection into the sacro-ileac (sp).  Got worse.  Then got a regular epidural injection last week.  I am SO much worse it's just terrible.

They said it could take two weeks for them to "take."  Do you think this is right?

Hope you are doing better.  I sure am not.  Sucksss is right!!!!!

It is not uncommon at all for people who have injections to feel worse for up to a month after having the procedure. The medication puts pressure on already painful areas and often times irritates those areas causing a flair up. It isn't until things calm down can you know if the procedure helped at all.

If after a month though you have not noticed an improvement over your pre-procedure condition or are still having increased pain then you can be pretty well assured the procedure was a total bust.

Jim, I didn't realize that the after-affects of an injection could last for that long...that certainly explains a lot to me!

I have a guided image hip joint injection scheduled for Wednesday. First time I'm having one right in the joint, so not sure what to expect in terms of pain, etc. but at least I know now that if it lasts for awhile, it's probably just taking it's sweet time, so I don't need to panic and worry.

I feel that some of our members have touched on an important point. After any kind of injection, incision, ect procedure on the back, you will almost always feel immediately worse, and not start to feel better until a few days to a week has passed. For me, I generally start to feel better about 4 to 5 days after an epidural injection.

Heres the other thing though. It generally takes 2 to 4 injections to get good relief. By this I mean repeated injections reap better benefits usually. I had 2 injections done, and the 3rd one gave me the best relief. Now the relief for me was kind of short lived. I went through 2 weeks with VERY LITTLE pain. For most people, injections provide relief for up to 2 months so my success was much shorter than most. However, those 2 weeks of relief were great! :)

That is true, that it often takes multiple injections, to get any kind of "lasting relief", but that is also assuming that the initial injections provided any relief at all. Once things calm down from the injection and you get even a 1/2 day of improvement then additional rounds should be considered. If you see no improvement at all then it is something of a crap shoot as to give a 2nd round a go. If you end up being one of the few truly unlucky ones that the injections make things worse then another round probably is not a good idea.

thanks peoples for that bit of information...my PM doctor forgot to tell me... i was going to be worse for bit before any change for better...he injected my SI joint and muscle in my butt that real close to tailbone....tailbone dont feel to bad its everything else ...its like he drove it to outter sides of my pelvis and shootin pain down my leg is back quite severe again...so i really hope it settles down again at least to where i was before these injections....since he injected two places is that considered two injections or series of one injection...how often can these injections be taken? not that im plannin on havin any more..after outcome of theses ones so far but i will wait few wks to see.....thanks everyone and wish u all LP ...will post again when this pain level comes down time to lay down
