shannon, you are correct. 7/day of oxycontin, 6/day of norco if needed. i guess that's a high amount, i don't know. i don't know what dosages others are on. there are months when i use all of the norco and other months that i barely touch them. just thought i would try and clear all this up!!!! kate

Hello Kate! Thank you for clearing that up for me! I got a little confused yesterday on the numbers. I list my meds as #10 325mg X4.....so that is per day so I receive 120 a month! wink
The #210 and the #180 threw me for a loop as I did not realize that it stood for how many a month. I was looking at the #210 as your daily mg intake. I'm way too black and white! :) No gray up stairs! :)

Then there are those who say they are taking a med every 4hrs......well is that 3 a day or 6 a day or what? :)

Now the Oxycontin, yes I would say you are taking quite a bit, and I have been told that X6 to X8 hydrocodone or Oxycodone is worrisome for some of the Dr's to prescribe.
I would still consider other options with your PM if he will entertain a look at them. Maybe a med change would be in order for you, or the possibility of a pain pump.

Dear Kate,

   Don't worry too much. Many people take that amount of pain medication. Sometimes doctors like to switch around ever so often or do "medication holidays" to help tolerance If you are ever worried about your dose or anything of that sort I suggest using this site  :-)

  There are a lot of medications out there for severe pain. So, I wouldn't worry too much. I have had many people do a "double take" when they find out the dosage of my meds. The thing to remember is each person is unique and each persons approach to pain is as well.

thanks dani...i absolutely know what you mean about the "look" if you tell someone how much meds you are on. that's why i tell NO ONE in my "real life." if you even mention that you take vicodin (hydrocodone) people are horrified because of the bad press it has received. it's almost the same thing with oxycontin....so i just don't even go there. what do you take? kate

Hi Kate. It might be tough to find another PM doctor without having to go through tests, etc., and you're right in that they will want your records. I understand you dilemma. Maybe your doctor could switch you to another medication or a pump (agree with SE here). I don't know much about pumps, but others here do.

Sometimes all it takes for some people is just a switch in medications. Everyone is so different, and I'm sorry that your pain is not under control. Can you ask your doctor about a switch since the regimen you're on isn't helping much?

Does your doctor have other suggestions/things to try to help with your pain like physical therapy or something like that? I know that when I can do it water therapy helps me a lot.

I know that it's hard when you feel like your doctor isn't listening to you. Could you maybe bring a family member to your next appointment with you?

Hey Kate , Before my surgery I was on 2-80mg oxycontin , 3 times a day , plus 2-325mg percocet 4 times a day . So 6-80mg oxycontin and 8-325 percocet a day , now after surgery I take 1-40mg oxyconitin 2x per day if I need it and mostly I take over the counter advil if I get pain . So its very possible to take a lot of pain meds but its also possible to get off . Oh and I was on 30mg of methedone as well , I'm on 18mgs now and detoxing . Good luck with everything , I hope you can get the meds you require to live comfortably my friend . Mikel
