In between a rock and a hard place

Hello everyone! It's been ages since I have posted on here. But I have a question and I was wondering if I could pick your brains to see if any of you have suggestions for me. I'm sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place in regards to pain meds.

I have Ulcerative Colitis so I can not take certain anti-inflammatories because they cause intestinal bleeding. I can not take narcotic pain relievers because they constipate me pretty bad which can lead to a life threatening complication called Toxic mega colon. I am highly allergic to codeine and Ultram.

I have Sacroiilitis, scoliosis and arthritis. I already take Tylonel Arthritis every 8 hours and I used to take Celebrex but I had to stop it because it stopped agreeing with me (caused bleeding and intestinal cramping). I already see a chiropractor, who has helped me tremendously. But there are days that I just hurt. I am tired of being in pain!

I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas for me to pursue?


Ps. I already did the pt route (marginally helped), accupuncture and corticosteroid injections for the sacroiilitis (didn't work). I've taken Skelaxin (made me a zombie) and Flexeril (more zombie-ish).

Thanks for the reply Char. Unfortunately I'm even more allergic to Sulfa then I am codeine. Codeine makes me feel like I'm going to pass, it makes me vomit, causes cold sweats and this is on the most smallest of dosages. Sulfa however, I break out into huge welts or I have severe gastro pain. I'm suspecting I might have RA or even AS but all my blood work and MRI's have come out good which I think mainly because I am already on an immune suppressing medication (mercaptopurine aka 6mp). What's a rhizotomy? I hope this new med combo works well for you.

A Rhizotomy is where they go and burn the nerve that might be causing your pain
it's the next procedure done after the injections, and make sure to have plenty of ice packs
after this procedure, and they may or may not use a steroid injection with
this, my last one they did not use the steroid...

this med if a medicine pump could be installed to bypass my stomach all together,
but that would be invasive surgery too so, but I might ask about it..
