I saw my pain doc today and by next week I will be on Methadone. I pray that this works because there are no

other options.Nothing has work worked. As many of you know I live with continous temportal headaches that are severe, always there, and this has

been three years solid. This all started ten years ago. I was on Methadone in 2002 when the headaches were also quite

severe and this is the only med that worked. So let's hope this is the key to unlocking this pain once again.

We may never find an answer as to why these headaches continue. At this point I don't care, I just want less pain.

I suffer considerably and have very low quality of life. I hope this will be my blessing.

And to add insult to injury, I had gum grafting surgery on Wed., and now I really feel like I am dying. Oh the pain!

Every night, besides praying for all my dear friends here, I pray for myself, my strength and courage to get thru the day,

and maybe just a little less pain Lord!!

          tmjpain, I hope with all my heart that this works for you. You have suffered something terrible.

     I'm headed to the Dr myself this morning, and have no clue as to what he will do for me.

         You have been a wonderful friend. Please do let us all know how it goes. I hear it takes a couple of weeks to get used to it, so give it some time.

Hey tmjpain,

I am so happy for you and hope it works.  I was on methadone for 2 yrs and it is the ONLY med that worked for me without all the side effects of other meds (i was tired at first).  If you look at some of my earlier posts you will see why I am no longer on methadone.  But basically the reason is I live in Florida!  I am now on opana and it is ok but nothing compares to the relief I got from methadone.  Maybe one day Florida legislators will keep their noses out of our business and I can once again get the relief I deserve (or I an move away from central FL).  Anyway,  this is about you.  I hope all is well and if you need any help with the transition please let me know and I will help in anyway I can.

Oh Suzane! I hope they work hun. No one should have to suffer like this ever! Please keep us posted on how the methadone works. *hugs*

Suz, like I've told you before many times> I just don't know how you have the strength to deal w/ that awful pain!!! I am praying for you that this finally relieves the horable headache that you have had for so long!!!
Wouldn't it be great to be able to enjoy your Florida trip w/o it but evan more to be able to get a good night sleep and wake w/o it?
My $$$ is on it worked for you before and it WILL work again!!!

I am so happy that you are trying this and soooooo hoping that it gives you some relief! You are so strong and such an amazing lady......I pray that there will be something.... anything that will help you!! You deserve it!! Hang in there hun and we will all be praying for some relief for you!

Praying that this is the answer to your prayers Suzanne. I know your pain level never seems to subside, so I hope that the methadone will be the breakthrough that will give you some relief.

ps: We've come out of our major deep freeze in Calgary now...the coldest day we had in the last few weeks was -41 with the windchill!

Edited to add this:

Suzanne, have your doctors ever mentioned Giant Cell Arteritis to you or Polymyalgia Rheumatica? Some of the symptoms sound very similar to what you're going thru and it might be worth asking.

methadone is smooth, it never wears off or even down once you get it in your system and i have seen that it has been a trend off using it for headaches and facial pain. best of luck to you, i hope you get relief.

I am so very sorry that you are still suffering so much. I wish there was some way to help and pray this will be the answer for you. I know you have tried so much and don't want to get your hopes up, but I'm going to hope for you!! You deserve some pain relief and a better quality of life.

Hi tmj, I would like to also wish you well, I will pray that those horrid headaches buzz off and leave you be! I know absolutely nothing about methadone, but was wondering why you ave not been on it if it is known to work for you, is it used often for headaches by specialists? Would it help facial pain?

Keep my fingers crossed for you and will stay tuned in to how you are going.

I am praying for you Suzanne and hope this works for you. I am going through the same thing now and don't know where to turn. As you, I have the nerve head pain and headaches and can't seem to get any relief. I pray this works for you and you will finally get some relief, Lord knows you have tried so much and been through so much, you deserve a break

Personally methadone didn't work that well for me, at least not noticeably better than anything else....it did have the nice benefit of keeping the "withdrawal buffer" (amount of time past my "normal dose schedule" that I could wait before experiencing clear-cut w/d symptoms) much longer than with other opiates.

I'm looking forward to trying an opioid, Levorphanol, in the next month or so that promises to have many of the benefits of methadone without as much sedation, the excessively long duration (7-9 hours instead of 48-72+), the stigma, or the greater risks that come with methadone (not just the longer duration, but doctors' ignorance of how best to prescribe it among other things) as well as docs' hesistance to prescribe adequate doses or use accurate conversion ratios with it due to that ignorance and those risks.

My health and certainly my life were never at risk with methadone, but that's because I was carefully self-educated about it and cautiously cross-tapered over from oxycodone. Others aren't so fortunate, and so on many levels, I'd say Levorphanol is superior if you're looking for a non-traditional opioid with the benefits of an NMDA antagonist.

That is, of course, strictly my opinion. But I've got a lot of data and research, as well as reports from fellow patients, to back it up.

I appreciate all your responses and especially the time you have taken to reply to my post. Thank you for being

there for me. You are a wonderful group of individuals and I am proud to call you my friends.

I will be getting my script tomorrow. I pray this helps me. I need relief so badly.

Can others that are on Methadone share their dosing that they are on? do you need breakthrough meds as well?

I know that everyone has their individual cases for taking this med.

When I was on methadone, I took up to 240mg/day in doses spread out every 6-12 hours. I also had up to 48mg/day of hydromorphone (Dilaudid) for breakthrough pain, though it is questionable as to whether the methadone at those dosages would have allowed the hydromorphone to bind to my receptors very well.

     Suzane recieved her script yesterday, and was scheduled to start taking it last night. It may be a few days, before she knows how well it may work on her.

      I sure hope it does, as I have watched her suffer something terrible on a daily basis around the clock. She is such a sweet lady, and deserves a break!

I had hoped you had already got your script and was well on your way to some relief, not just from the headaches but the horrible gum grafting too. Since you had a good experience before with Methadone lets pray that it hold true a second time around. Sending positive vibes your way and hoping for an end to your misery. Take care.

     I just spoke with Suzane, and no relief yet, but she just started last night.

        They only have her on 5mg a day, and will introduce it slowley to her. I guess that is a pretty low dose. I dont know anything about this med, but know some of you do.

          Im still praying for a better outcome for her, and it wont be anytime too soon either!

        I will update as I know more. Maybe she will post here when she feels better. We text for only a few moments a day, and then she hits the sack again, because she feels so badly.

Aw poor thing, yes 5mg is a low dose but hopefully it will kick in soon. I am thinking it takes a few days for it to get in the system. Methadone is one of those meds that you build up in the system and the half life you hear people speak of, is the Methadone that is retained in the body. Seem to remember it is stored in the tissues of the body. At leastr this is a start and hopefully in another 4 days or so she can tell some difference. Wonder when she see's the dr again???
