subutex use for withdrawal symptoms

I have just been giving a script by my doctor for subutex and I heard that you don't have to wait the full 24 hrs before taking it. I was taking opiates including heroine and oxy's. is this true?

Hello and welcome to Healing Well's chronic pain forum. I have no knowledge of this particular medication and would suggest either calling and asking your dr this information or perhaps calling your pharmacist and speaking with him/her. What did your dr tell you when he gave you the script? None of us are drs here at the forum so you really need to ask a professional this question.

No, you can not take it before at least 24 hours has passed otherwise you will be thrown into precipitate withdrawal which is an intensified withdrawal.
I would agree with Stray that you need to call your doctor for instruction on using this medication. I know that physicians must be licensed in prescribing subutex for addiction and for pain management so it seems unlikely that he wouldn't have explained this to you before giving it to you. And it is not usually just given , they usually make you take it in the office to make sure that your withdrawal symptoms are well managed before allowing you to leave.
If my doctor were to give me something for any illness or treatment and not explain the instructions for it clearly, I would find another doctor.

Oh yes he did explain that to me. I'm also in constant contact with him over the phone. I've heard from many others you don't have to wait as long as you do when taking suboxone, because suboxone has the opiate blocker in it. thank you for your responses so far! turn

Poppy the best thing to do here is listen to your dr, he knows best. If you start listening to input from others all you are going to do is get mixed stories probably none of the info will be correct so why bother-listen to your dr.

I take SUBUTEX and not SUBOXONE because the suboxone has the opiate blocker.

I was taking up to 60 mg a day of oxycodone (the 5mg little white pills / no tylenol).

I switched to SUBUTEX because I am much nicer and not aggressive like I get on Oxy.

I take one half a mg of SUBUTEX about every 20 to 24 hours and don't get any withdrawl
symptoms from the oxy which I have been on for couple of years.

When I get in really bad pain though I take a OXY for break through pain and still have the
subutex in my system.

So "for me" they can work together.

Subutex or generic buprenorphine has no naltrexone or naloxone opiate blocker.
