Hello, I just became a "member"  My Medicare drug plan has change as of 1-1-2011. I was taking 40mgx2 of Oxycontin. Now I am taking 60mgx2 Morphine(sulfate cr) I know everybody is different when it comes to meds. So obouivs 120mg Morphine is More than 80mg of Oxycontin. But am I going up in streght or going down in streght. I have been looking for a conversion table on theses meds. Can someone help me out? I have been on Oxycotin 40mgx2 for 6 years

Welcome to HW! This question is really best answered by a pharmacist. Call your pharmacy for the best answer.

Based on this conversion guide:

120mg morphine cr is exactly equal to 80mg Oxycontin (oxycodone cr). However, conversion charts are not always accurate. Equigesic dosing is typically determined in ranges. The charts usually rely on the middle of the range.

Plus, you are likely to have some overlap when you first change over. If you are having any issues with the morphine being too strong or not strong enough, call your doctor.

Hi, I too would like to welcome you to Healing Well's chronic pain forum. I am sorry that you have to be here but glad that you found us. At least by coming here you will find that you are not alone dealing with CP. All of us here suffer with it and probably can relate to just about anything there is about CP. Everyone here has a different story to tell that has lead them down the road of CP.

As Frances stated above, it would be best to either call your pharmacist or speak with your dr.. Is the switch in medication taking care of your pain and keeping it under fairly good control? I don't believe you mentioned whether the change was a good or a bad one for you.

Anyway, I wanted to pop on and tell you welcome aboard. Perhaps later when you have some free time you can tell us a little more about yourself. Take care.

I've had to move from oxycontin to morphine once and because of insurance will most likely have to again. Your conversion is the same as I experienced. But it's only a starting point for your doctor to use, just as all new prescriptions are. So be sure to tell him/her how it's working.
