OT Crazy Texas weather

Wow, what a week weather wise. First part of the week we had an ice storm and temps below freezing for several days. On top of this we are having rolling blackouts, due to high usage. School has been closed too, its too cold for little ones to be standing at bus stops and the ice is very treacherous. Then around midnight last light the snow started falling and has for over ten hours now. Our roads are a mess, many shut down, and people do not have enough sense to stay home as they are telling folks to do. The freeways are littered with vehicles turned every which direction and the tow trucks are busy helping folks out. We have additional sand trucks supposedly coming in. DFW is hosting the Super Bowl and I am sure these visitors were hoping for the warm 75 degree weather we had last week. lol. One of our airports is shut down and they were counting on a heavy schedule because of the Super Bowl and DFW is not moving much because of the ice. By eight this morning they were talking over 300 delays. I heard on the news many of them did not bring warm clothes thinking they would not be needed here. I did venture out yesterday to the store and it was really slick in places but as long as I stayed in the path worn by other cars it was ok. But today those paths are totally white and you have no idea where the ice is until you hit it and go sliding.

I got a call from my 5 year old grand son this morning and he was all excited when he woke up to see snow. He said his mom & dad were dressing and they were all going to go out and make snow angels and play in the snow.

     We just got home from our Florida trip, and the change of weather was a shock as we stepped off the plane.

           I think Wichita was in a small pocket, that did not recieve that much snow, but the wind made for some pretty big drifts here. It was back to work this morning, but the road crews had done a pretty good job of clearnig them. I drive a 4-wheel Jeep, so it has not been much of a problem. It could have been much much worse like so many of the midwest states have suffered.

I would rather deal with a foot of snow in the north than a couple of inches in the south. As you said people in the south just do not know how to deal with ice and snow and the southern states do not have the equipment and resources on hand like the northern ones do.
