I went to my pcp for my annual physical Friday. Because of the EKG being a bit abnormal every year, she had one of the nurses to do another one. After I got home, the phone started ringing and I couldn't get it in time. It was one of the nurses from the office telling me that the dr had went over the EKG closer and she wanted me to go to the ER. Then about 15 minutes later, the phone rang again. It was the dr. herself calling to tell me that she found something different on the EKG and that she wanted me to go to the ER. Well, because of my past, I hate going to the hospital because if brings up bad memories, and I told her I didn't want to. We hung up the phone and a bit later I started feeling like things weren't quite right, so I called 911 and went to the ER. We got there about 7pm. They took all my information and put all my meds in the computer, meanwhile I'm the one answering the questions, after about 15-20 minutes, they finally took me to a room. They hooked me up to all the usual things. The nurse drew blood. She came and brought an EKG machine and did an EKG. Sometime later the nurse came in and told me the ER dr. had ordered a chest X-ray. Well, about 10 min. later, a guy came and took an x-ray. I'm not sure if it was in that order, because I was worried. Something could have been going on with my heart. We waited about 3-31/2 hours and the dr. finally came in. She told me that the blood work, EKG and x-ray were all normal. She said the nurse had to do another heart enzyme test in about 35 min and if that turned out to be normal, then everything would be ok. Well, the nurse came in and drew the blood for the enzyme test when the 35 min. had passed. The dr. finally came back and told me that the blood test was normal and everything looked fine. She told me I could go home. The discharge papers said panic attack and palpatations. I was having palpitations every once in a while at first, but then they stopped. I didn't have a panic attack. I guess they had to put something down. It turns out that my heart is just fine, thank God.

Jerome had called our friend when we had been at the hospital about an hour and asked him if he could pick us up when we were done there, and he said yes. Just to call him when we were ready. Well, he called him when we were ready. he said he would be there in about 15-20 minutes. That time passed and he wasn't there, so he called him again. He said he was in the middle of something and he would call us when he got there. Jerome waited about an hour or so and called back. he still wasn't on his way to pick us up. We waited four hours for him to pick us up. In the middle of waiting for that time I told Jerome that I could probably get home with medicaid transportation, but they probably wouldn't let him ride with us. Finally after that four hours, I was so mad, that I took a chance and called them. I asked if Jerome could ride with me and they said sure, that the discharge nurse just had to call them, so I went and told the lady that was sitting in the ER waiting room. She took my medicaid card and set us up a medicaid cab. After about 20 min. the cab came and we went home. I was furious with our friend. i can't get into it, but he was doing some really stupid stuff. He would have been better off to leave, and come and pick us up. We got home about 5am. We hadn't had dinner the night before, so Jerome fixed dinner. I took my meds and went to bed. What a nightmare Friday night was.

Did the ER call your doctor to find out why you were sent to the ER? There must have been something important for the doc to be so insistent that you go.

I hope you follow up with your own doc, maybe ask about a referral to a cardiologist.

Loretta, I am so sorry the day was so bad for you. Having a friend let you down like that must have just rubbed you the wrong way and for good reason.

I hope you are feeling better today. Will you contact your doctor to tell her what happened, or will the ER send her a report? It would be interesting to find out what she thought was going wrong with your EKG, as opposed to what the ER found when they did the test.

Take care of yourself....rest and don't over do it, okay?

     That is very concerning. Have you spoken with your doctor since the incident at the ER? Does she want you to see a specialists to further investigate? I am a bit confused why she asked you to go to the ER instead of a referral to a specialist?

 

      I was surprised when you spoke of how quickly the ER doctor was able to order tests and check every possible problem. I know it seems like it was a long time, and sure it was. I am just relieved that they checked everything the best they could.

 

     Your friend... you know that just wasn't right. Was not right at all. Did he ever tell you what was so important that he had to finish? That is just terrible. It would have been better if he was just honest from the get go and told you he couldn't come to get you instead of stringing you along. I cannot blame you one bit for being so angry with him!

 

     I am glad you are home and are doing okay. But I worry what it was that your doctor felt you should have gone to the ER for. Does she want you to see a specialist to try to diagnose or investigate what she thought was of so much concern?

 

     Yes! I am so glad the patches were helpful. It is so rare to find something that truly works. I hope you are able to rest and put all the stress behind you. Hang in there and don't over due it.
