NO more All MY Children, One Life to Live

I know it is a tad off subject, but about the time I need a rest, or a pain pill, it is timefor All My Children, followed by One Life To Live, on ABC, and to day it was announced that AMCwould be ending in Sept, and OLTL by the first of the year 2012.  I tried to find out if they were changing it to another channel, or time, but that it was to be finished, for ANOTHER COOKING show, and maybe an exercise show.  I have watched those shows since I was a little kid, and will miss them I used to go years without watching, but always knew I could get back to them.  Just wondered if anybody else would miss them ,and used them, as I do, for a relief from everday trials and tribulations. ou might know that General Hospital will be continuing. I occasionally glance at it, but it is too unreal, with all the Mob activity, and killing and nobody goes to jil.

I don't keep up on the TV news but I did watch them as a teenager....and that was decades ago! Will I miss them? Nope, haven't seen them since I was 20 and that's was long enough ago to age the finest of wines!...lol Seriously, for me I'd say let them die a peaceful death and find something new. I hunt for university channels and can find interesting lectures without commercials. But unfortunately 2 of the best have closed up in the last 2 years. Not much to watch on TV any more. Might be time for us to turn off the Tube.

I am right there with you. IPrior to oct 2010 I hadnt watched those two soaps for years and years-then i got injured. I started watching both of them again and now i sucked right into their web. it is like i never left. i love them. i cant get get involved in general hospital. I did watch it tho when Luke married laura. that was a great1..Rachael ray show is enough for us to scan over-we dont need another cooking show and i dont want to see an exercise show. if somebody wants to exercise have them buy a dvd and exercise like that. Those of us who can barely walk with a walker then wont be exposed to having that on tv. Those 2 soaps were an escape for me. the dresses and makeup and jewerly I really enjoyed and the plots were great!

I don't watch One Life to Live or All my Children but I understand. I grew up watching The Edge of Night and then when my kids were small watched General Hospital and Young and Restless then I got involved with my own life and had no time but now that I do I have started watching Y&R as well as Days if Our Lives and I would be very disappointed if they cancelled those.

I never got into the soaps, too much drama for me. But I did get into Dark Shadows, lol. I have never been into tv much because I was always working on something in the house in the evenings when I worked. Now, if I watch tv I will watch the reruns of NCIS only because I never saw them the first time around, lol. After those shows are over I move on to something else away from tv. It is real hard for me to sit still any length of time and to me it can be the biggest waste of my time. When my husband goes off hunting, the tv is never turned on the entire time he is gone and I love it. I think my husband could watch movies 24/7.

I watched when AMC and One Life to Live started.  I was a young new wife with a newborn and Erica was my age at 17 on the show..  well i was nineteen.  Needless to say, I don't look as good as Erica still does.  Anyway I remember her first husband, Jeff Martin and I was hooked the first week I watched.  I watched it for decades and then finally stopped because I went to work full time after the kids had grown.

I was shocked to hear the shows were going to end and I'm thinking of tuning in and catching the last six months or so, since I caught the beginnings.  I used to watch General Hospital too.  Three hours of soaps Monday through Friday.  Those were the good old days.  I have fond memories.  Maybe I'll tune in again.

I know how you feel purple. I don't watch those two, but I did lose Guiding Light. I got Dr. Oz in its place and I watch him every day that I can, and the Doctors at 4pm. I missed Guiding Light until I got to watching Dr. Oz and now i don't miss it. I watch Rachael Ray at 2pm. I was watching The Talk that replaced As the World Turns, but I caught Rachael Ray on day and had been wondering when she came on and now I watch her. I hope they don't put an exercise show on. That would really show us chronic pain sufferers up would it? I sure wouldn't watch it. Even if I didn't watch Dr. Oz. I do watch the young and the restless and the Bold and the Beautiful. Well, that's enough of that I guess.

the producers said that not as many were watching the soaps anymore, and were more interested in real life. I bet they did not figure in all those who record them while they are at work and watch at night or on weekends.

I remember Dark Shadows, and played Quentens Theme, I believe it was, theme song on the piano when MUCH younger.

Supposedly, they are going to give the shows a "Befitting ending". I think that is hard when they are still introducing new characters and storylines all the time.

I watched the very first episode of All My Children.  I was a huge fan of All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital.  They helped me when I was going through a very bad time because they were something I looked forward to in the day.  But, I did stop watching them in the late 1980's because they took up my whole afternoon and I wasn't accomplishing anything.  I was so hooked on them.  I do think it's a shame they are going off the air.  Those programs helped many who were going through tough times in their lives.  It was about the only time I relaxed.

 

And, yes, I do remember Dark Shadows!  Talk about an off the wall soap!  LOL
