I am sorry I cannot remember who had a questions concerning applying for a receiving SSD.
I personally did not apply for SSD, I did however apply for SSI, which is Social Security Income, which being I worked outside the home my entire adult life until I could no longer work and had to go on disability. The first two years of my disability I was paid by my employer. When it came close to the time that was going to run, I applied for SSI. This was actually the second time I applied for SSI, the first time I was turned down as almost all are, I have no reason behind this except for my conspiricy theory which I will not go into.
So the second time I applied I had gotten a lawyer, I am not sure about other states, but this is Maryland and this state has about I dont know how many thousands of lawyers who do nothing but SSI cases. So my first meeting with this lawyer he had asked me to bring my medical files, which I did. After reading my files, he took my case, when he took my case I knew I would win, they wont take the case if they cant win because they wont get paid unless they win.
In less that 3 months and having only 2 meetings with my lawyer, the second being at the hearing where you are in front of a board of people who are going to make the decision about whether or not you will be getting SSI, five minutes before the meeting my lawyer told me what to say, what questions they were going to ask me, and how to answer those question.
As I said in 3 months time, that lawyer had gotten me the SSI, which is a monthly payment, but more than that he got me a large settlement (it was large to me) because SSI has to give you a lump sum payment when you win from the first time you apply. So I got that for myself and at the time I still had a child under 18, and she received a lump sum, and until she turned 18 she also got a payment once a month, of course since she was a minor they were mailed to me, and I set up an account for her at the same credit union I did my banking at.
Now this was the icing on the cake, about one month after my case was won, my lawyer had already signed me up for medicare and returned 2000.00 dollars to me that he said he had been overpaid.
This lawyer had no personalty at all, he talked business and nothing but. But he wasnt there to be my friend, he was there to do his job and he did that as well actually better than I could have ever hoped for
I dont know the difference between SSI and SSD, but SSD was never mentioned to me as an option. I am not sure what the difference is or why. But maybe the person that was applying for SSD could try and apply for SSI instead, I dont know if you have that option or not.
I hope I have been at least a little helpful, and this gets to the person who was having the problem
