waiting for an xray of my hip

I called my PM last night about hip pain that is getting worse over the last few days. Today i am getting an xray of my hips. I really like that they jumped all over this. I also called my rheumy and they called this morning to get more info. I hope it is something we can do something about.

It could be bursitis...which I had a bout of this a few years ago...It was just awful!

What ended up helping me with this was buying a tempurpedic like mattress topper....Much cheaper as I couldn't afford the whole bed! It's 3 inches thick...And after a few weeks of sleeping on this..as I'm a side sleeper....along with some daily stretching that I learned specifically for bursitis....I don't have this issue but maybe a day or two every few months.

As well as my doggy has hip dysplasia...he's actually on Tramadol twice a day for his pain:(...but this has really helped him as well since he sleeps with me!

So..I know that it's not an easy answer for everyone...I just wanted to say to look at every possible way to treat and help the pain once they figure out what it is..

Christina, it sounds like you have a good team of doctors jumping on this, so that's a good thing.  I'm sorry you are having this increased pain.  I have some hip pain, too, but I think it's related to my sciatica and osteoarthritis.  I agree with Snowbunny, it does sound like bursitis.  If they call it an *effusion*, basically the same thing, which is fluid in the joint. 

I do hope you find the cause and get your pain level down soon.  Sending you some gentle hugs......(((((((((((((((((  )))))))))))))))).  Keep us posted.

Christina hope you get answers soon, if its bursitis at least its treatable and can be taken care of. Like Snowbunny said it is terribly painful. I get it in my left hip and all I can tell you is there is no pain like it. I cannot take NSAID because of crohns disease so we do the steroid injection to get me over the hump.

Ok Snow, I am getting really jealous of your referrals to Tempurpedic beds and pillows, lol.  Seriously I am going to start a saving account for the bed next year.  It might take me a year, but it will be well worth it.

Also, I have bursitis in both my hips, I have had injections (steriods) and that does help for a while, usually about 3 months, but as with everything else, this comes at a price sometimes.  Everything does.  Or maybe its me today, I seem to be very, I dont know even, angry, tired of all the stuff that goes on with doctors.

Ok enough I am off until I have a attitude adjustment.

I got the xray, I was even given a cd of the images to look at myself when I asked. Its a bit better today since I'm not moving around an don't have to sit straight. Yesterday was really painful since I had to drive and get in and out of a low car several times.
It's not really nerve pain as much as an "irritated mushy bubble of something in the joint of my left hip." That's the way I described it to the doc.
I already have a memory foam mattress that is a very similar knock off of a tempurpedic mattress. We got it as a floor model at a going out of business sale at $1000. Deal of a lifetiime. I love it. I also have a generic brand molded memory foam pillow. I don't toss and turn as much, or wake up with screaming hips and back. Or limbs that are numb and tingly from lack of circulation. I have, though, learned not to sleep hanging over the edge. Like I did my other bed. This bed "hugs" you, pushing back softly as you sink in to maintain body alignment. If part of you sticks off the side, the mattress slowly pushes you till you roll off!
Stretching might be a good thing though, since I truly can't do much right now.
In a little bit I'm going to take a look at the images. Anyone know what bursitis looks like?

Christina...I can't say that any of us will be able to help with the x-ray images..I wish I had that training! LOL...I think you will have to wait until the Dr. looks at them..

And that's great that you all found that type of mattress on sale!

Nini..I don't have that mattress at all...I just bought the mattress topper at Sam's club...it's 3 inches and it goes on top of my regular mattress..that's all I could afford...It is just the same material as Tempurpedic...so for me...that did the trick!

I do have the real deal pillow though since my issues are cervical so that is crucial for me...It was around $150...and worth every penny.

So...there are options and as Christina said...also sales and knock offs...

I think bursitis is pretty common with a lot of us CP'ers as we aren't as active as the 'regular folk'..LOL..as well as we carry our bodies in a different way when we walk and this can inflame that area as well.

This is why for me...I need to do the stretching every day...as well as I do walking 30-45 minutes a day with my dog...this has actually helped as I am trying to keep all my other muscles strong..

It's really about trying to find the best options that can help..

Christina, any news on your xray? Hopefully its something like soft tissue swelling and nothing to serious. I have bursitis in my left hip along with a small cyst on the ligament and when it all acts up it is super painful! All it takes is laying on that side for more than a few hours and I can set off for days.

We bought ourselves a Sleep Number Bed about 2 years ago, I love it but my husband hates it. We bought it used, shampooed it and covered the mattress with a heavy duty allergy cover, I could never afford a new one. It is also on an adjustable frame, sort of like a hospital bed, so I can adjust as needed. He would like to try a Tempurpedic type mattress, but I cant afford a brand name one. I have been told there is an adapter platform so that I can use my adjustable frame for a tempurpedic type mattress.

Snowbunny, does your 3" mattress go under your sheets or how does that work? Not sure if I could keep that on top of what I have or not without sliding around or falling off,lol.

Shell...yes...it goes under the sheets...Many sheets now go up to 24 inches deep to allow for these type of mattress toppers. And because it's like the same material as Tempurpedic...it is pretty darn heavy...so it really doesn't slide....once in awhile I need to adjust a bit because my dog is jumping on/off the bed! LOL
