No Batch number on my prescription????

Hello everyone.

I had a radiofrequency done yesterday (friday) and was given a script for percocet to keep me until next week for my follow up appt w/ my PM doc. My husband tried to fill it and was told they would not fill it due to No batch number? What is that?  I have a call into my PM, but have not heard back from them, so I guess I will be w/o all weekend due to their mess up. 

Just wanted to know what the heck a batch number was anyways.

I'm confused. I thought the pharmacist would know the batch number, and not the doctor prescribing the meds.

So my doctor is supposed to print it on the prescription....?....All I know is that I have gone from taking my meds 3x a day to taking none for the entire weekend due to this "mistake".

Im wondering if this is the same thing as the RX number?

Hi Shannon,

I was just reading through some of the posts and yours caught my attention. I have worked for a retail pharmacy for over 7 years and I have never heard of a prescription being returned or denied because of a batch number. With percocet there are certain things that we look for on the prescription because it is a class c-2 medication. We check to make sure the name and strength of the medication is clear and comes in that specific formulation. Then we check to make sure that the directions and the quantity that the dr is prescribing match up. Lastly we check to make sure that the dr has put on his/her DEA number and that the signature can be verified, and of course we make sure that name and date of birth of the patient match up as well. As far as a "batch" number that is generally for our pharmacy to keep records. I worked for a big national retail chain and am not sure if you go to or how local mom and pop store works. Their inventory system might be different. If it were me I would call the pharmacy back and ask them to explain what their idea of a batch number is and how it relates to the prescription that was dropped off. Only two things that I can think of is

1. The person at the pharmacy misspoke and something like the doctor's ID number was left off the script
or
2. The batch of that medication they got in was screwed up and didn't have a batch number which would prevent them from dispensing it.

A batch number is the medications ID number which tells where and when it was made as well as what the medication is, etc.

Thanks everyone. I did call them back (i actually tried to fill at walgreens, so it's a big chain), and was told that with the new florida laws, that my script was on the right paper (with all the new security features) but the script itself was missing a batch number. So, i think they are saying that the actual script was supposed to be printed with a batch number on it as one of the security features, and not actaully relating to the med.....

Does this make any sense to anyone? Monday, my doctor is going to get really chewed out....his service will not page him (saying he does not take after hours calls for prescriptions)...ummmm, hello, u r a pain management doc, i am in pain......duhhhh o-well, hopefully I can get better aquainted with what florida law now requires and will double check my scripts from now on.

Did not know you were in Florida.

That could very well be then. With all the issues down there with the pain mills it would not surprise me if the state hasn't come up with some kind of ID number to match script paper to doctors.

Yes Jim, I think so to. I am in Miami. I am good with whatever measures the state wants to take, but I'm pretty upset with my PM office for making this mistake and leaving me with nothing all weekend.
