Well I am screwed

Just found out today that my wife has not paid our Medicaid premiums for the last 4 months so we have been dropped and have to re-apply and the soonest that we can get back in will be next Feb. So now I am going to be without all my medications for at least 4 months.

I asked her why they haven't been paid and she says she just forgot.

We pay most of our bills online and I have tried for over a year to get her to give me the account info for everything so I could make sure the bills are paid and paid on time but she always refused saying she wanted to do it and thought she should do it since it was her job that paid the bills.

I don't expect I will be doing a lot of posting in the next few months because I am likely going to be in too much pain to feel like being at the computer much plus when I am hurting bad I tend to get really grump and not play well with others.

So when you see disappear for a while you all know why.

Hi Jim, I also agree with everyone advice, dont give up.  Go to the office and see someone in person, explain what happened, most will give you at least what you have to have on an emergency basis.  I do think its better if they can see you, again put a face on the problem, and you may get better results.  From now until Feb is just to long to be completely miserable.

  I feel for you! I have to hide my pain pills my husband will take them all and I have nothing for when I need it!

 Wow is there anything you could take over the conter that might help?

  Your doctor can he give you something he has in the office so you won't need a precription?

  My husband is a jerk and makes light off my pain to!  I've had it sense 96. He rolls his eyes. I hope you find something to help!

Yeah, I hide my pain pills and my adderall too from my husband...he feels he should get half cause he's tired and in pain. I told him go get hos own and he thinks I am the giggest B. I get painful steroid shots in my butt, I need those meds to function...he like them cause they make him feel good. No wonder none of us can get our meds without a hassle.

Jim there are other options, charity pparx.org, samples, no cheap replacement for fentanyl patch but ther are plenty of potent pain pills that are dirt cheap, Get a heating pad, lots of good books and settle in for a few rough months

I know I can probably get all my other medications free through various programs, but my pain meds....nope, no way, and the generic would cost me about $150 per month. I know this because I am on the generic version now and my pharmacy lists the retail price on the receipt to show how much insurance saved me.

The only other medication I have been on that was effective was morphine and there is no way my doctor would put me back on that even though it is about a 1/3 of the price of what I am on now. She won't put me on that because of all the problems I had when I was on it before.

We are going to call this morning and raise a fuss and see if we can get it overturned. If that does not work we are going to file an appeal, but most likely it won't do any good. Kind of went down this road a year or two ago when someone reported us as lying about our income and we got dropped and ended up having to reapply and wait 4 months before getting insurance again.

Jim I am so sorry to hear this has happened. Wow. I think I would consider what Sherrine said and perhaps give it a shot, you have nothing to lose.

In the meantime, your wife may be the only one working, that should not have any bearing on who does or does not pay the bills or know how much there is or isn't in the bank or who is earning the money. What would happen if something were to happen to her and she was unable to access the bank acct, how in the world could you if you have none of the info and if you have no signature authority. Thats not a very wise move on her part and you should bring that to her attention.

One of our children has signature authority on all of our accts and knows what is where in the event something were to happen to one or both of us. My husband would rather take a beating than pay bills and I know who would have to come over here & take care of things if I was unable to. We also have her listed on our debit cards, yes we do trust her explicitly, no worries there.

I am sorry this has happened to you and you must be steaming angry with your wife. It boggles my mind how such an important bill would go unpaid, and I'm sure you're concerned about why she didn't pay it. But that's something, regrettably, the two of you will be dealing with.

I don't have a suggestion regarding how to get reinstated, but in light of what happened, I want to suggest something that my wife and I do (edit: I see that stripey has the same thought). We each get paid through a direct deposit into personal accounts, then at the start of each month, we transfer into a common household account a monthly estimate of our bills.

So, though our paychecks are our own, we both transfer some amount into an account we can both access.

From that account we use the electronic bill pay for all our common bills (mortgage, insurance, utilities, common credit card, etc.). We both can see on that one site what bills have and what have not been paid each month.

Via the above, we each can spend what we want, save what we want, etc. from our pay, but we share access to a common pool and share responsibility for our common bills. Hopefully, your wife would be willing to agree to a shared monthly bill-pay account in the future.

Hi Jim It's great to hear that you got your meds filled ok, you can get at least 4mg of your meds cheap, and your wife turned all the bill paying over to you. I'm so happy for you. I know you're really relieved at this point, and I am for you. Take care.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Sounds like you were between the proverbial rock and a hard place. Was glad to read your later post, updating your situation. Hope that buys you some time with your meds until you can get things straightened out again.
