New Pain treatment option?

Has anyone read about this? It seems to be a wonderful option , especially for those of us, who have severe neuropathic pain. It is non invasive, similar to a TENS unit but geared especially toward stopping pain signals from traveling to the brain.

It sounds really cool.......check out the website and see if there are any locations available near your homes. It might be something that might truly make a difference to some of us.

I read about it on one of my spinal cord injury websites and thought that it might help some of us here too.

I wonder how this really differs from TENS treatment. It looks a lot like the TENS units that are used in the "office".

From what I read, it is applied very similar to a TENS unit, in that it uses pads, very similar to the ones placed when you have an ekg, but it is done in a series of topical treatments that directly effect the nerves, which interrupts the transmission of the pain signals going directly to the brain. It is supposed to have long term analgesic effects.
I read through the entire website, and some of the studies done, and it does seem that it is something that is at least worth a try if there is one near you, especially for RSD and other severe neuropathic pain sufferers. Wouldn't it be great if this would work , before we had to go the routes of implanted devices? TENS never worked for me, but that is geared toward muscular pain, not neuropathic pain anyway.
If my insurance would pay for it, and it was near me, then I would at least give it a try.

Hi, to me the big if is the cost, I doubt if medicare would cover the cost at all at least at this point.  I already have a medtronics neuro stim in my back that is completely usless.  I know all to well that doctors are human and can make mistakes, but this has been a very costly mistake for me.  After 2 surgeries and it still does not work, I am very weary of another "miricle system".

I believe thats where the problem is going to be is will it be covered by any insurance, as it is really in the early stages, I remember over 10 years ago reading about the neuro stim, in which only the very wealthy could afford this.  Now many years later, when the cost has gone down, believe me if I had had the sense to ask the cost of the neuro stim, it never would have been in my back.

I do hope and pray that it turns out to be something really worthwhile to the people suffering, and if so that it will be afforable to all who need it.  Who knows, it might be the answer alot of people are looking for.  I guess its a start huh?

My medicare does not cover it. of course
