I was wondering where everyone is from and with winter coming on, when you start having first freeze/frost/ first snow, etc. I'm a weather buff. I've thought of posting this before, but never did.

I hope everyone is having a low pain evening. My back is hurting a lot tonight.

Where do you live-LOL??/

I live on the gulf of mexico in Mississippi near New Orleans...we live on the water. Brutal summers that last almost 6 months, of course hurricanes(Katrina) fall and spring can be gorgeous, dry 75-80 degrees or rainy and damp...winter is a little cooler, but below freezing does not happen too often

Some say cold and damp hurts the most and it bothers me too, but heat and humidity really suck too.

BUT, we get to eat Christmas dinner on the porch more often than not.Grew up in New England, so remember tose looonngg winters.

I grew up in Michigan any time after labor day it can snow up there. However,
I'm now in Texas just a lil south of Houston, TX and we will get cool tonight and
it's playing havoc with my health, I would like sometime to meet up with other's in
Texas and someone else said something but I forgot who it was, so very sorry about that.
I shall try to do better on that and our last freeze for the year is supposed to be 15th of February.
We don't get many freeze's but we had one this year on 3 or 4th of February it
disrupted the power for us...

I live in Canada in the province of Saskatchewan, city Saskatoon...We just had our first snowfall on nov.7/11. We usally have really hot summers but too short. Our winters are long however the last few years have been mild without much snow but still long. we try to get away for a month and head south in the winter, once we retire we plan on going south for 4-6mths...it is much better for my body. Hi, Kathy/nini coming in from Maryland, about 15 miles from the Nations Capitol Washington D.C. and about 20 miles from Baltimore.

This gives me the option at football season (which I love) to Holler for the Redskins, or the Ravens, of course if you follow football, I am in the Ravens camp.  I was totally Redskins and the beginning of the season came out strong, now, they have no offense and the defense is tired from being on the field so long.  So as of this season, Go Ravens!!!!

Its starting to get chilly now, I hate winter, snow and ice.  Winter makes my back and everthing else I have hurt more.  I am uping my bt meds on my next stop, which is not far away.  I go once a month, and my pm doctor is in Annandale VA., which by car would take at least 2 hours, thats because of traffic congestion.  I take public transportation each month to see this man.  It takes me less than 1 hour to get there, 1 bus, 1subway train with only 2 transfers and I am there.

to Amy/sos007...I live in Texas and we had someone down here from Canada,
after only 1 year the heat was getting to her, by year 4 she's up and has gone back to Canada,
our heat down here can be brutal, don't mean to scare you, our winters are nice and
very pleasant usually from November to March would be the best time to come
down for a visit bring a winter coat as we do get cold, just not usually below 0, but your
Welcomed to come down to the South, we don't cool off at night in the summers...
Just wanted you to know so your prepared...hope this helps and we hope to possible move to Colorado

I'm in Maine. We had our first snowfall all 12.5 inches the weekend before Halloween.

It was a little early but not unheard of. I think our first frost was the beginning of October this year. And it can snow here through till the end of April, beginning of May.

We have 2 seasons. lol Snow and Mud.

No freezes/frosts/snow here, that's for sure! South Eastern Australia for me, currently late spring which is thunderstorm season. We've had an absolute cracker this afternoon, now it's pouring with rain - think we had half our average monthly rainfall in about three hours this evening!!

I live in central Pennsylvania and 2 weeks ago we had 9 inches of snow and since then it has been in the low 30s in the mornings and up to high 40s in afternoons. Always ice on car windows.

I come here from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We had a skiff of snow last Friday and since it has been colder -7(C) here today. We do get chinooks throughout the winter, so can go from -20 to +20 with 24 hours.

I live among the more southern mid-western states. Winters are usually mild, but temperatures can fluctuate greatly -- December - February we can go from 80 degrees to 30 degrees in a day! Typically, winter daytime highs are in the mid-50's but sometimes the jet stream will dip farther south and we'll have a few days of cold and snow.

I live in east central Illinois, we have a real varity of weather here, we can have brutally cold in the winter, and terrible hot in the summer, but usually either one does not last for an extrememly long time! When the weather really gets cold here, I always look up the weather they are having in Fairbanks Alaska, ( I spent four years up there in a previous life, when in the military) when I see the weather they are having up there, I feel so much better, and realize I do not have it bad here  at all! I do still hope, that one day I will be able to move to a warmer climate ( at least in the winter) and near a military installation. But this winter will be spent here in Illinois.  Like everything else in life, where you are and the type of weather and how it affects you, depends allot on yourself and what you make of it!  I find comfort in checking the weather in other places that I have lived, and then remembering how that was........it puts things into prospective for me, and makes me realize how fortunate I really am with where I am at!

I live in southeast Michigan right now. We have very cold winters but not much snow. We had our first real killing frost mid-October, and it was chilly for a bit, but this week it is warm again. I'm happy for the reprieve since I know it will be cold soon enough.

My big concern for this winter is transportation. I live a mile and a half from work and don't have use of the car in winter. Last winter I biked all winter, but now I've become very afraid of injury. I've cut way back on my bike commuting (can't remember the last time I rode in) so I'll have to figure something else out. Maybe the bus.

I grew up in New England and this year my hometown has experienced a major tornado, hurricane Irene, and a snowstorm in October that knocked out power for over a week. Glad I don't live there anymore, but it has been so rough on my mom. I'm helping her with even more disaster preparedness when I visit over Christmas. I've heard lots of stuff about this winter being especially severe, so I'm nervous.

I am in Tx and our summers the last 2 years have been terribly hot, triple digits. Now we are in the middle of a terrible drought. We had a light freeze/frost one morning last week abd that is really early for us to get that cool. Our weather has changed so much here in the past couple of years its hard to know what its going to do. Normally our weather is very mild in the winter, we usually have 1-2 ice storms in February and thats the worst of it.


Todays high for instance has only been 60 and that is cool for this time of year here.

Thanks everyone that replied. It is interesting to see where everyone lives and the different weather that we all have.

I live near Buffalo in Western New York. I'm sure most of you know that we can have brutal winters. Our weather man on channel 4 (the channel I watch) has been talking about this winter being colder than usual around the great lakes.

We had our first freeze a couple of weeks ago. Since then we have had daytime highs in the 40s , 50s, 60s, even yesterday it got up to 72. Today it got up to 68. Tomorrow it's supposed to start going downhill and be in the 40s a couple of days, then 50s a few days and next week on Wednesday it's supposed to start a long cool down.

I live in central NY...30 miles north of Syracuse on Lake Ontario.  Snowbelt.  We're the ones you see every winter on the news after having gotten 4 feet of snow over night....UGH.

Southern Pennsylvania, here, next to the Maryland border. We just had a nasty October snow storm, its way too early for this crap! Oh well, I actually hate severe heat more...as long as this winter doesn't turn into another 'snowacolypse' then its ok.

I live in Stow, Massachusetts-midwest in the state. We just finished an earlier-than-usual cold snap with some snow - not enough to shovel but sufficient to wreak havoc with trees and downed power lines. We lost power for three days, but others - including many here and in Connecticut - have lost power for over a week...no fun!! Do not like winter months - don't like cold, shoveling, heat bills. However, do enjoy watching all the critters on the bird feeders...woodpeckers, cardinals, nuthatches, wrens...and a host of squirrels and chipmunks with big appetites! I'll keep my complaints to a minimum, because many in the mid-west have conditions far worse...hurricanes, tornadoes, etc...I'll settle for 70 degrees anytime!! Starting in NOvember, I start counting the days until Spring...

South Central Pennsylvania here, and I agree with Betsey and misterkatamari that our early October snow was unexpected. It was beautiful, but I am praying that this is not a trend for this winter.

I find the cold affects my pain just as much as humidity can, and take a fleece blanket with me everywhere we go now. Its chilly and rainy here today, perfect weather for a pot of homemade soup.

Its the hot tea and hot apple cider weather. We began getting steady frosts here each night, which is right around the normal time for this. We have been known to get snow all the way into April some years.

I'm in Pittsburgh, PA and we had a little bit of snow a few weeks ago. The weather is so random lately. One day you'll need your winter coat and then the next you could wear a tank top.

I live in Central Ohio. We haven't had any snow yet, but our low yesterday was in the 20's. The summers are hot and brutal with lots of humidity.

The temps can change very fast here and you just never know from day to day.

I grew up in Michigan.For the past 5 yrs I have lived in Georgia. We actually had some snow last yr with an ice storm which is rare in the south. Its been cool here but not as cold as the great north. We had a low of 30 last night and todays high is 54 degrees. I miss the Michigan snow.
