Getting new knee Dec 30

Here is the latest...on Dec 15 I have pre op tests and allergy testing at our local hospital.  4 days later I will know if  I am allergic to anything else besides nickel.  Then the ortho doc can order me my knee that I wont be allergic to.  I am concerned about that.  I hope that I will be able to accept a knee.

I have a surgery date for Dec 30 to get a knee and straighten my tibia.

Looking forward to it but it will be my 4th surgery in a year.  I feel that with each surgery it takes years off from me. Does anybody else feel like that?

3 days in hospital and 1 week as inpatient at rehab 5 minutes from our house.

Then I will finish up my rehab in Florida.  I am not dealing with ice and snow while getting to rehab.

Prayers and many well wishes Betsey and I hope this surgery will go
better for you and last you for many many years...knee replace is
painful so I hope it's not so painful for you....keep us posted we do care...

My Dad just got his new bionic knee at the begining of November.....he hurts from the surgery, but is doing wonderful. I am sure you will be fine, knees have come along way over the years. His last one was over 30 years ago. I will keep you in my thoughts....

I can feel the warm fuzzy thoughts coming to me.

Since I had 3 horrible surgeries and post op pain and PT out the ying yang i should sail thru this with flying colors.

I will call SE to keep him updated when I am without internet capabilities.

Betsey I am so glad you are finally getting the knee.

We have spoken in chat, but not for a long time.

You are looking for a hobby, have you tried weaving?
You can get small laptop looms and sit comfortably while weaving.

I have never tried weaving but Im game for it. Can I get everything at a craft store?

Gosh, I hurt so bad tonight. My back is spastic, comes over me in waves of spasms. Pain is at an 8 and I took my med and Im at an 8. It stinks. PM doc reduced my oxycontin 10 mg 3 times a day to 2 a day.

Im nervous about the surgery.

I just need to keep myself occupied.

I bought my Rigid Heddle Loom at a Wool store. You can order them online too. I would recommend googling and researching first. Lots of utube videos. Have fun.

Wednesday I go to ortho office and pickup allergy test kit and thursday I drive to hospital with allergy test kit for pre op tests. On 12-21 I have ortho appt with my ortho doc. There I can express my fears.

He was an army doctor so he isnt exactly warm and fuzzy but he is a good doctor.

I went to my ortho docs office to pick up the allergy test kit. that was an effort for me today. My left leg was at a 9 this morning.

Tommorrow I go to hospital with my allergy test kit and hobble in to preregistration and get all my testing done.I will be able to do my physical therapy after my operation. I am very determined!!

Today I parked in a handicap parking spot at the hospital,I used my handicap placard,and I had to hobble to far to get to the hospital entrance. Leg pain up to an 8.

Had difficulty finding preadmission testing registration, signs were worthless, asked a lady who was walking like she knew the hospital. She helped me find it, something good should happen to that sweet lady. I told the check in lady that I had an allergy test kit with me that has to be done today. That went right over her head and it wasnt addressed.

I went to preadmission testing, had my weight, height, BP taken. Then ekg, then handed off to another nurse who filled out more paperwork. I am now there 2 hours. Leg pain up to a 9.

Went to lab for blood letting.lol. I presented my allergy test kit to phlbotomist and she asked,where is the script? How do I know? So out to registration I went where they called ortho doc and was told script will be faxed in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later ,still waiting! Finally it was faxed. Back I go to lab with script. Same technician came up to me, she couldnt find a good vein, digging around, then it collapsed. Onto other arm, tapped on arm and I squeezed my hand , finally found a flowing vein. Got 8 vials of blood. Then she said I would have to pay ups shipping charges on it overnight to Illinois. I dont have the money today. i called my ortho doc. His nurse told me to hand it to her at the office and she will overnight it.

Next Tuesday I go to another building to give a bag of my blood. I will drink alot of water before hand.

Wednesday I have consult with my ortho doc. I dont feel at all comfortable with that hospital and its employees. i love my doctor but he only operates out of one hospital. I am very uneasy about this hospital due to how I was handled today.

I will express that when I see my doc on Wednesday.

I wish I could drink, I could use a glass of chablis.

Betsey, I am happy to see your surgery is scheduled, but I am sorry the hospital gave you the run around today. Hospitals can be so chaotic! I always expect more from a place that is intended for healing.

I will be thinking of you and praying that your surgery goes well and you recover well.

Here it is Sunday, we went out for breakfast then to grocery store, I was in a motorized cart, then home.

 

Saw two cop cars 3 houses away from our house.  When the police left my neighbor told me that a guy was outside yelling that he wanted a knife to end it all.  What a shame that a person feels so depressed to want to do that.  the police scooped him up and took him to a hospital.

 

Tuesday I donate a bag of my blood for surgery and then wednesday morning I talk to my ortho doc about the results of my allergy tests and my surgery.

 

I am aprehensive about this surgery,New hospital and new anesteslogy  dept to deal with.

 

I keep praying to give the surgeon the ability to place a knee in me that im not allergic to and have minimal post op pain

Hi Betsey. I just wanted to pop in and say that I hope your surgery goes well. I understand not liking the hospital you have to go to. I'll have to give birth at a hospital that I don't like at all, but it's the only one my doctor works out of, so I'm stuck.

Anyway, I have met so many people with new knees at therapy, and many have told me that it really makes such a difference. I hope that you get relief, and I will keep you in my prayers.
