Waking up to a nightmare...can someone pls help me?

Can someone please help me? I have major back and neck issues and I've had a couple of surgeries within the past two years. My most recent surgery was for a drug pump implant. Although it has helped decrease my pain, I still have daily, chronic pain. I knew the drug pump wasn't supposed to be a magic bullet that will take away all m pain.

The worse pain I have currently is like torture. When I wake up in the mornings I am racked with pain that wraps me like a blanket. I feel like I was either beaten about my entire back, neck and arms with a baseball bat or I was run over by a freakin bus! I'm literally waking up to a nightmare filled with unbelievable pain! I hate going to bed and I hate waking up even more! What can be doing this to me?

After a couple of hours, thanks to my BT pain meds I finally find relief from the pain...until the next day. During the rest of the day I continue to experience pain in my arms, hands, neck, back and down my left leg. I continue to have numbness in my hands and fingers too. This pain comes and goes depending on how active I am during the day. I try not to take my BT meds. I just do my best to deal with the pain and numbness. It doesn't matter how active I am during the previous day and night, I always wake up in hell! The intense morning pain has been happening for the past two months and continues to increase.

Thanks for your advice. I was told to reduce my bt Meds from 8 a day down to just two a day. I understand about staying on top of my pain... Hard to do while I'm sleeping...when I can sleep! Makes it harder when my pm doctor has reduced my bt Meds so drastically too. I was suppose to also increase my activities to include walking each day. Well, since I can barely get myself out of bed...well, I don't do anything these days. I feel trapped by both my pain and my doctor's restrictions re: my bt Meds. I feel like I'm being punished...and tortured. Perhaps I somehow deserve it? I have been either dealing with the pain or avoiding life so I can escape the torture. I just can't avoid the morning episodes, which are draining my will to...

Wake up each day. I have been putting off going to yet another specialist to be officially diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, which I believe I have. I had a bad "accident" at work where a co-worker was reckless (thus the "accident") and my neck and entire back was injuried. My PCP believes this trauma caused the onset of Fibromyalgia. To make all matters worse I was terminated from my job, because I could no longer perform the job I was hired for (police officer) and they are fighting my workers compensation!!! The reckless officer was never disciplined and will no doubt injure others again. Meanwhile I have no job, no career and no income. I had to hire a lawyer to fight workers comp. as I struggle thru daily chronic pain to live a broken life! I've had surgeries as well and still need more. I'm trying so hard to remain positive, but it gets harder with each day. My future is a huge question mark.

Anyways, thanks for lending a shoulder, eye/ear... I appreciate your advice and I know it could have been worse and there are other who are suffering much more than me. I limp around with a cane, but at least I can semi-walk. God has a plan for me and everything has a purpose. This belief has kept me alive. I will somehow survive and be far better off down the road. I couldn't do this without the support and understanding of my friends at Healing Well! Thank-you!

I am currently using morphine only in my drug pump, but they can mix up Meds. It's a wonderful idea about possibly increasing my morning drug pump dose...if its possible. I will certainly ask my pm doctor if this can happen and let you know. They are still slowly increasing my dosage and I have not begun to be remotely active at this time. I feel like they are teasing me by holding off increasing my Meds.

It might depend on what model you have, but I feel certain that straydog has mentioned that the pump can be programed in such a way…that the dose can be increased at specific times of the day.

…also the fact that your pump is only charged with morphine at this time….tells me that you indeed may need a med change or a combination of compounds for better results. Please do check with your PM on this.

So sorry that you are racked with pain . i hope you can inform your pm doc that you want to do daily activities but the pain keeps knocking you down.

I finally went ahead and made a doctors appt. with a rheumatologist to determine if I have this fibromyalgia???

I have to wait a month before I can be seen! I guess their business is hopping these days, because I called multiple places and got the same answer...hurry up and wait!

I'm not too sure how this can help me other than finally putting a name to my tormentor? From my understanding there is no cure? Is there anything they can do to help me deal with the pain? I love the outdoors and want so badly to be able to live again. I feel like a prisoner inside my home. I want to hike, ride my bike, ski, kayak, travel to places other than PT or my doctor's appts. I still want to work again, but I know I can never do anything remotely related to my previous career in law enforcement. However, currently I have difficulty sitting or standing long periods at a time or walking. Makes Office work kinda out of the question too. Meanwhile I continue to fight with SSD and Workers Comp. I just pray no one else is going through half of what I've been put through. Being kicked when you are down by agencies and governmental organizations that my tax paying dollars support is driving me insane!! Where is the justice?
