Prescription question

Hi,
I am prescribed three lots of medication for chronic pain in my arm after an injury at work. Due to financial constraints and me trying not to take all this medication, I do not take them when I should, but I still visit the doctor monthly for a new prescription, but I do not always take the prescription to the chemist. Will my doctor know that aim not using the prescriptions ...IE: not collecting the medication as much as Ian prescribed ? I probably only use one prescription in three, so two of them are simply left unused. The doctor always gives me a new prescription and says nothing, but I have been told by a friend that they do get feedback when/if a prescription is used or not

Thanks for that. I just dont want to lose the facility of having the prescription, so using one in three of four is good at present.

I have worked in the medical field for nearly 2 decades & I can tell u in the u.s. they wouldn't know unless they called the pharmacy. You should probably inform your physician.

Actually in the USA it depends on the medication and the state. Some states are now really tracking certain medications and are also requiring pharmacies to send a "confirmation" to doctors when the script for those medications are filled.

I do concur with other members that it would be best to be honest with your doctor and work out a schedule for getting the scripts, such as only having them written when you need to fill them.

Since the cost of the scripts is the main problem, I would tell my dr I cannot afford all of this every month and be honest. Drs really do not know how much medication costs in these drug stores and when they find out the cost from the patients they are sometimes shocked. Your dr should understand your situation. Trying to hide it from the dr about not getting the scripts filled is just bad business, there are ways to track some drugs as Jim stated.
