liver safe/safer pain meds?

I have RA and take methotrexate, plaquenil, relafin and a bunch of other stuff.  I have recently injured my rotator cuff and was taking occasional tylenol or tramadol for it.

Doc called today and left a message on my machine-no tylenol or alcohol-obviously prn tramadol is out too at least until I am retested.  Can't take more NSAIDS cause of the relafin and their effects on the liver.

Anyone aware of any other options?

Sorry about the new issue with your rotator cuff...Sometimes it is never ending:(

I'm curious of why you can't take the Tramadol? That doesn't have any Acetaminophen in it...

I switched from Percocets a few years ago to just plain Oxycodone...So I am prescribed OxyIR 5mg for my breakthrough pain.

So...it seems as if you should be able to take the Tramadol if it's your liver they are worried about...

I googled tramadol and the patient information also says it causes elevated liver enzymes-so I am assuming its out-at least until I can talk to my doc.

Interesting....I have never been warned by my Pharmacist or Dr. about this with Tramadol...

But yes...talking with the Dr. is best...

As I mentioned...there is OxyIR as well as Roxicodone....so there are choices to have that don't include any Acetaminophen if the Tramadol is out..

I did talk to my doctor today she said it is fine to continue taking the Tramadol-it is much less liver toxic than tylenol. Which means I am much more comfortable now.
