Anyone familiar with nerve damage???

   I have been to podiatrist's that sent me to an orthopedic surgeon. After a series of tests x-rays and exame he asked me if I had numbness in my feet. I told him that I had and he is wanting me to see a nuerologist about it. I have been to one in the past "sezure 05" and another Podiatrist wanted me to one in 08 but didnt go. Now I have an appt. in wk 1/2.

   The big issue I have is when Im relaxing in the recliner at the end of the day might feet are ok up pos. for about 10-12min. then it feels like someone is holding a lighter at the bottom of them. When I let them down 10-12 min. its starts there so I lift them back up?? They're on fire now!!! I told my GE about it today and he thought is sounded like nerve dam.

   Is there anything that can be done? BTW GE said that my liver looked to be good to him and will have BW results back Monday ;-)

It depends on the reason for the pain. If it is being caused by some kind of pinched nerve then it may be possible for the problem to be corrected, but if the nerves are actually damaged then all that can be done is to manage the symptoms. The good news there is that there are quite a few medications available that are effective at reducing any pain, burning, etc. The bad news though is that there is nothing they can do about numbness.

Thanks Jim. I know it sounds strange saying this but with all that pain there is numbness. Sunday night I found a small blister on the middle bottom of my foot after showering and had no idea! Monday found a rusted nail on top of foot under the tounge of my shoe a few hours after working!?! But if thats what it is I can learn to deal with it but the burning!!! I hope that the Neuro can find something!

Sounds like nerve pain to me. And it's not odd to feel a lot of pain with numbness. My sciatic nerve is being squished so i get pain and burning and numbness all at once. It is no fun. I hope your doc finds something that makes that go away or at least hide!

It sounds like the nerve pain that I experience in my hands... I'm on Neurontin and it does help a lot w/ the burning pain. It does nothing to help w/ my sciatic nerve pain... but it does help w/ the nerves in my hands. Weird, huh?

Good luck w/ your neuro appt. Keep us updated.

I have nerve damage in both feet. The symptoms you describe that you have are the same as I have. Numb, but yet the bottom of my feet and sometimes the tops of my toes feels like they are on fire. There are topical cremes you can buy to rub on that help quite a bit. Ask your pharmacist which ones he recommends. I would rather do that than get into those new drugs that no one knows much about. good luck.

i have severe radial nerve damage from breaking my c-7 vert in my neck left me with a perm wrist drop on left hand. i have no use of my left hand and severe electric like spasms/pain down my arm

I have PINS syndrome which is a nerve compression of a branch of the radial nerve-partially paralyzed fingers on my right hand.
I went to a neurologist and had a EMG with conduction test and she told me that the damage was probably goint to heal itself as long as no further damage occured.
If the nerve is damaged but not dead or severed you might get some healing.
If it is a disease process like diabetic neuropathy it might be progressive but it may also be something that you have some control of.

Go see the neurologist you need real answers.
