Hi (snowbunny) thanks for responding!...yeah im still a welder at my job,its what in do...always in some sort of pain everyday at my job,like a lot of us...but my meds really do help!...but i wanted to try the shots also to get better results,but i can see its just temporary,i guess the combination of the shots and the meds are giving me relief that i would never have otherwise,because before this i was miserable!!..don`t get me wrong,i still have my days!...just in the last few weeks im starting to notice that i need to adjust my meds a little,im taking oxycontin 20mg ER and oxycodone 10 IR..they were working as advertised for awhile but now their starting to drop off on the hours a little,like the 12 hours for the 20`s are just 8hrs now,and they don`t seem to be releasing enough medication like their suppose to...and the IR 10`s are only giving me about 1 1/2 hours of relief and im only aloud 3 a day which leaves me a lot of gaps where im in pain,because im spiking about 5 to 6 times a day and by the time i get home i`ve take`in all my meds,my last one would be the 20mg,but normally i take it now after 8hrs,of my last one...my lower back pain has been starting to hurt just like (clock work) i start work at 7:00 and finish at 3:30...back pain starts again at around 2:00pm,my 20`s not due till 5:00pm(taking 1:00pm) since i take it at 5:00am...so i`ve had to adjust a little...again,thanks Bunny!!...i really have no one else to talk to about this stuff! u know how it is! no one wants to hear it!!..lo!...thats why i joined..i appreciate ur time! and everyone else`s!!...Have a healthy day!!...God Bless!

I wonder if your Dr. would be ok to move you to the Oxycontin 3 times a day (every 8 hours) as opposed to the 12. This is pretty common for those on long acting medications.

Or, if you show them the schedule that you are mentioning here...maybe they will up your long acting medication to the 40mgs...or add another 10mg pill (Oxycontin)

When is the next appt. with him? It's always a good idea to keep a pain log as Dr.s just love facts and figures! LOL So if you can start doing this until your next appt. Write down everything from when you wake up until bedtime. What level your pain is....what makes it hurt worse...and how long the medication is lasting.

I just had to file for disability myself last month. I've been off work for a few years now but I just kept thinking I would wake up one day and be all better! LOL...So it's taken a huge mental adjustment to do this as I really miss working every day.

I'm sure it's hard on you with such a physical job...but if you can still manage it and your Dr. is working with you to do this....then that is great.

Do you also have a muscle relaxer that you can take when needed? Something like Flexeril, Robaxin, or Skelaxin? The opiates work for overall pain to "dull" it some...but for muscle spasms....an actual muscle relaxer is extremely helpful to add to the equation when needed.

This is such a great place here at HW as yes, we all can empathize with one another what it's like to live with chronic pain. Both emotionally and physically. My friends and family know..and they try really hard to empathize...but it's great to have a place to come where people are walking in your shoes.
