Hello Luie! ..again I agree with Straydog here on this. As for asking your Dr as to which med you would like to try...while there may be some truth, and more than not on what Jane said...it also depends on your relationship with your Dr. If there is a trust built up over time, and he/she finds that you are a responsible patient with no script abuse problems, and keeping a clean contract...then I thik it's fine. However, the best thing to do is let them know that you are aware of several different med's..and ask them if they have a suggestion as to what might be tried next.
I myself have an excellant relationship with my Dr, but this did not happen over night, and I still give him the respect that he deserves. I do however bring up med's that we have not tried, and let him suggest. so far this has worked out fine for me.
My only comment on Kristie's opinion, is that while some of what she says may hold true to a point...I do think once a patient stops taking a med that a tollerance was built up on,...it can be lowered over time, thus allowing a patient to return back to it as another option again in the future. I have seen this done several times, although it may take anywhere from a few months to a few years to do so.
Good luck!
