Shortage of Oxycodone

Just looked on the FDA's website there is no listing for oxycodone being on the shortage list don't understand why these pharmacies are playing games I'm in pain here can't go to school and sit for three hours without pain this is ridiculous at its best

There is no shortage, they go by how you look to decide if there going to sell them to you or not, sounds messed up i know. also if u try calling them and asking if they have certain meds in stock or questions about them they usually always say they dont have it in stock. this is all due to stupid people robbing pharmacies and stuff. best thing is to keep going to the same pharmacy, and they will eventually learn your name and know you by face and trust you , more then they would some random person they never met anyway. in the begining when i first got on pain meds i had to go to a bunch of different pharmacies looking to see if they had it in stock, now i only have to go to 1 usually, i guess because they noticed me comming monthly for same meds idk all i know if before that this place always would say that they dont have it in stock, now its not a problem cause they know my face.

I used to work in a pharmacy and I can second what Luie said. There definitely is some patient profiling when it comes to controlled medications.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the advice. Luie I know the ladies that work at CVs and they still say they don't have them I'm at my wits end with this. I called my Dr. to tell them I'm having problems getting this medication and the only thing suggested was keep trying someone is bound to have them.

I'd really encourage anyone that is going to be on opiods long term to get to know your pharmacist... I think having a compassionate pharmacist is an important part of the "team" of dealing w/ CP.

As you get to know your pharmacist, let him/her know you'll need this medication monthly...

You could also try the warehouse pharmacies (Costco, Sam's, etc).... or, on the flip side, see if you have any smaller, independent pharmacies in your area. Lastly - does your hospital have a pharmacy? Usually any pharmacy that is close to a hospital will keep a better stock of these type of medications....

you can also have the pharmacy order them if not in stock and have it shipped to ur house.

My dr is comfortable doing mail order for my patches. That way I can get a 3 month supply and no running out. I still need to come in to see him, and I must be home to sign for the package but it is worth it in the long run. I hated showing up to the pharmacy only to have them say it would be a week till it was in. Some chain pharmacies only order narcotics 1 time per week. Complete nonsensense when you cant get a script till a few days before due and they pharmacy cant take it till the day before due, left me stuck 9 times out of 10 with no meds for days. You would think they would have some sort of system for those who get a script every month to guarentee meds to be there. Especially since most drs pain contracts say you my only use one pharmacy.

I also have dealt with a mom and pop pharmacy that will order the med for me based on my calling in a week before and then they hold it for me. Of course they need the prescription to fill it but it has eased some concerns for me whenIi wasnt able to do mail order.

I just mentioned this in a similar thread here, it helps if your doctor is involved. My oncologist is also my pain manager, and he has spoken to the pharmacist at my local CVS several times, so that there wont be any hassle with me getting pain meds on schedule. It also helps that I have used the same drug store for nearly 19 years, I am well known there, and they know that I am not some drug store shopper or drug seeker.

From what I have seen the main state that has a problem with oxycodone is Florida. But There are many drugs comparable, maybe have your doctor prescribe you a different one easier to obtain.

Hi, I’ve been reading people post of here & other post on other threads, I can’t believe people have problems getting their Meds especially narcotics!

Recently I did a med switch from OxyContin & Oxynorm to MST Continus (MSContin) & Oramorph, Unfortunately I had a server bad reaction to the meds & My Dr switched me back on OxyContin & Oxynorm.....I went my usually pharmacy they hadn’t got OxyContin in stock because I can’t take genetics they have order originals especially in & they deliver them to my home.......with me doing a med switch they didn’t ordering any as they thought I was staying on MST Continus & Oramorph. Anyhow because they hadn't got any stock they gave me emergency 36hr supply of OxyContin to get me by until they can deliver my meds........Even if I went to another pharmacy I wouldn’t normally go too, they too would have to give me/us emergency supply.   

I can’t understand why pharmacies in USA don’t carry emergency supply for people, especially narcotics or any other medication for that matter. Here in England they have to make sure everyone has they medication even if they don’t have it stock they give you enough meds to get you thru.

I am so sorry to hear all the people who are having trouble getting their pain meds. I live in Canada and have not had that experience and hope I never do that is just so unfair. I never thought a pharmasist could refuse to fill a prescription that a doctor wrote but have read a few posts that have stated that. What do people do if a pharmasist won't except their script? There has to be a better system for people who suffer from chronic pain and pharmacies

Is this probaly mostly in the state of Florida?
