Neurologist vis. today + bone inf. is back. Bad day.

I had gone to the neuro and had my nerve conductive test/emg. Doc said my neuropothy was worse than he expected.They started shocking my feet first and it was mild. I felt it but it wasnt bad at all until he moved to back of my knee and It shocked the hell out of me, it was the same amount. He said my nerves were deteriorating.He asked if I had back problems and I said for years. He wants me to have an MRI on my lower back thinking that its pressure on a nerve. I know thats going to be pinched nerve. Also I had a pretty early appt. and woke up and took off there 1-1/2hr drive. I shower before bed as I sleep better. It hurts my foot too much to walk/ stand without my orthotics. Anyway I had a sore foot this morning and thought I was on it too much yest. Took my shoe off there and suprise! My bone infections back! Ive been taking Bactrim 800mg.s 2x's a day since last Thur. and today MY PCP added clindamycin 300mgs 4x's. ALSO FREEZING AND SKIN IS TENDER!!!
Im on HealthSpring(medicare supliment) and my neuro requisted a referal, they denied the referal and would cost around $600 for pers. pay. I called my PCP and they got me in today.He,his nurse + a new trainee checked me out. He said they may have better luck getting the referals. I hope!!!

No MRI yet. Im waiting for my PCP to call in a referal.I feel a little better/not much today. last night was freezimg,week,headache and light headed. Now the freeezing is gone.Not enough sleep because I have my 12yr.niece here at 7a.m. didnt go to sleep till maybe 1:30"love her"! Think I'll lay back down for a bit.

Sorry to hear that you are having more problems...

I have to say that I can't imagine even if they find spine/disc issues in your lower back, that this would be the cause of your Osteomyelitis/bone infection. Obviously I'm not a Dr., it's just based on not seeing that correlation before. Usually with a disc it only puts pressure on a nerve which would cause numbess only.

I would certainly still pursue any back issues you have...but I just wonder if that is a separate issue and I would hate for them to lose focus in this area.

With a bone infection, there is bacteria that has gotten into the blood stream and spread to the bone. So they need to figure out where the bacteria came from and stop the spread asap because if the infection goes longer, this is when permanent damage can happen.

Did they do a biopsy of the tissue? Also a x-ray, MRI, or ultrasound of the actual area of the foot is supposed to help see any changes in the bone.

I can't remember in your other posts if they have ruled out diabetes?

That is too bad about having to go round and round with referrals....I just think you need to be pressing for more blood tests to figure out what type of bacteria is causing the actual infection.

And I don't want to scare you...but just make sure you read the warning that comes with the clindamycin.

I know we talked about why they hadn't put you on a stronger antibiotic than bactrim...but the clindamycin is a very powerful and comes with some strong warnings about the side effects.

I just want you to get the best care.

Worthit, even when caught in the early stages, this type of infection is so bad it is very hard to get it cleared up. I know of a fella that had it and he nearly lost his foot because of it. He sought care early enough an all, but like I said its just wicked.
