…just quickly…the patch has been discontinued, and we are now on a morphine based product. There are some dosage issues, but I expect that to be corrected on my next visit. As for the pain relief, I don't think I will know until we get the dose set correctly, but I do see some hope. I have learned to be cautious with my success, as I have many times seen very short lived pain relief when switching med's. It will probably take a good three months at most before I can determine a positive outcome.
I will say that the Fentanyl product is a very effective med for many, and was for me as well,..however the delivery method performed poorly for me. My PCD still makes mention of the pump, but at this point there are a few more med combinations I must try if needed, and fail, before committing to the pump process. I have studied the pump as much as possible, and it is not an easy decision to make, although it may sound simple. There are a lot of variables as to the success of it, and many, many, complications that can leave a patient crippled for life and or lead to their death.
All in all,…I am optimistic from what I have seen so far with the morphine….but again time will tell. My PCD is old school (not a bad thing) and very safety conscious and conservative with pain med's. That combination can make for a very long process at my expense. However, he is a good Dr, and so far has been fair, just slow. The down fall is that he is not a PM, and at times I feel that he is actually in over his head, and I may be a bit further along with a good PM. But,... in this city where I live PM's have become almost recluse about
treating CP. Many of the local PCD's have taken over CP treatment because patients cannot get script
ed correctly by their former PM's. I will remind members, that here where I live, a PM clinic DR and his wife were convicted about
a year ago for killing 33 of their patients by over script
ing med's that many of us use today. They will never see freedom again.
Thanks for asking,
