Strange but good Dr appt

 

       ...that was a good post Rose! I'm glad you are the type of patient who is aware of their surroundings and can make adjustments when the time is needed. This one of the things I do when I see my PCD...and I usually ask how he is doing and may hop on a subject that I know he is interested in.

    We were in the middle of an appointment here a while back, and my Dr told us that he had three patients that week that they found cancer in. He was heartbroken!...and we could tell that he respected and cared for these patients. My wife and I just listened, and let him get it off his chest....he had a need to share it, so we forgot about ourselves and engaged in the conversation with him.

       We need to remember that Dr's see case after case of patients that are seeking their help, and that can be a lot of stress on them.

     Rose your caring actions for him...will help cement your relationship...and that cannot be a bad thing. Good job!

Hi Rose, thank-you for sharing that. It's been pretty easy for me to forget lately that these doctors are human beings with hearts just as fragile as ours, though when you're a 20something year old male who looks like he should own a full gym, well let's just say I think that's why doctors are extra professional with me. I think my own stature may have been one to make the doctors forget they were doing a check up on a very fragile man and not an impervious super hero, I was pretty muscular, but underneath, I'm just a teddy bear lol, and I've always wondered if doctors felt intimidated by me. But I dont process or even identify people's body language or facial expressions, or what mood they're in by the tone of their voice, so I really probably wouldn't know if the doctor was having a bad day or not.

I've just always left doctor's appointments feeling pretty dehumanized, but I just always attributed it to my own problems with communication. Thanks again for posting that, I really need those reminders sometimes.
