You guys have been so helpful by suggesting the right way to go about these back problems. I just wanted to let you guys know that I saw a Neurosurgeon today for a second opinion and he immediately knew I was in pain. He said that he wants do do Microdiscectomy on l4-l5 and l5-s1. What a sigh of relief. Again, I want to thank you guys for keeping my chin up. I really hope that this helps. If not, it is fusion time for me. Either way, I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Great news! Even though no one wants to have surgery...I think it's very good to start with the MicroD when possible. Many people get wonderful results with this type of surgery to relieve their symptoms...It's always best to go at it with a positive attitude and be prepared either way but hope for the best!!

When are they going to schedule this....soon?

It's such a relief to be taken seriously. I really hope this works for you and put an end to all your pain.

I hope you don't have to have fusion surgery but I am an example of fusion success.

Hi DHitt, while it is never good news when a person needs surgery, from what you are telling us this is good news for this particular kind of surgery involved. Like Snowbunny said there are lots of people that have had success with this surgery and we hope you will be one of those too.

Any ideas as to when the surgery will be scheduled? Keep us posted. Take care...Susie

We love good news around here, very happy to hear yours. Having a doctor to understand that you are indeed in serious pain is half the battle in my opinion.

I am glad you have that light turned back on it may take awhile to get to the end of the tunnel but it's because it's longer than it looks .:-). I also have a successful fusion but have had a few bumps along the way. The best part about the bumps is the wonderful support here.

The way I have this schedule is to have an MRI in the next 3-5 days depending on the schedule at the imaging place, then have a follow up with the doctor on September 14th. When I have that follow up, he will look at the MRI and figure out if anything has changed and will formulate his plan accordingly. I'm most likely looking at September 21th. I can't believe that it is only 17 days away. They could tell when they walked in that I was in a lot of pain. He really looked at the way I stand and sit. He could tell exactly where the problem areas were by the feelings that I have in my feet. By the way, his name is James Moody M.D out of Methodist Hospital Dallas. He is in D Magazine (The magazine in the Dallas area that highlights the best doctors in Dallas) and has been a major part of the Neurosurgery community here.

Purgatory- You are completely correct when it comes to the battle you have in finding the right doctor. This is now the third doctor I have been to. The first one wanted nothing to do with me because it was related to a car accident. The second doctor was recommended to me by my attorney, but I wasn't completely comfortable with him, so I decided to call Dr. Moody. Did he ever take care of me.

I was able to call on a Friday and get in today, Tuesday. That's really quick if you ask me. He gave me a script for a Medrol dose pack, which should help a little. I am on so many medications, I can't tell exactly what is helping and what isn't.

Again, I want to thank everyone again. What should I expect after this surgery. What is recovery like? Do I have to stay overnight?

I think that is great news for you. Its always a good idea to go through a process of elimination before introducing a fusion as a last resort. At least here the medical team can get to the source of the problem or at the most offer you a diagnoses that you can live with.
