Anyone have problems with Medicare Supplements???

  Ive been going to a neurologist for the past few months and have been referred to him by my PCP and approved by my supplement "Health Spring" for the visits. Today I reveived a call from the Dr.s office and was told that Health Spring wasnt paying. I told the receptionist that I received letters of approval and that I was going to make copies and mailed them to their office.   

  Im frustrated now because I had several tests ran on me over the past few months (nerve conductive, skin biopsies and few others) Anyway Its been a long wait getting in this guys office and now my next visit is first of next month and was going to get my results. Im faced with getting this took care of or it could be all a waste of time and gas $!!!

  Anyone on here that can recommend a provider that isnt as difficult to deal with would be appreciated!

The 1st few years I just let the computer or whatever pick for me as I figured it didnt much matter but I got smarter and realized it mattered a lot. You have to do the research and find out which one covers your needs as many are geared towards the elderly and their needs and not so much the rest of us on disablity.

You can go to medicare's site or each insurance site and make sure you find out if you will have a premium and the amount as they vary alot,your co-pay on visits and meds and any aids you may need.

In the start I had well-care and then pyramid and then AARP for alot of years and that was when I was living in Kentucky. I moved to Florida 4 years ago and of course never thought to change it and found myself with alot of non-covered procedures.

In saying that,it matters where you live as well. Certain insurances cover differing things in different areas of the country. Odd but true. I now have Humana and have not had any trouble with them in the 2 years I have been with them. My med co-pay is the lowest it has ever been and they have not refused payment on any visit or procedure my Neuro has done. I didnt need a referral from my PCP to see any specialist so far either.

I dont pay a premium the good state of Florida pays that since the amount of my SSD doesnt afford me enough to pay rent hardly. Thats a different post for another day! LOL

What I am saying is like everything else in our life from our meds to our choice of Docs, do your homework and the poll was a good start,but remember it may matter where we live as to which company is best suited to our needs.

I have United, but it is Primary and Medicare is secondary. I have had a few issues with United and Medicare working together and have a BIG one right now, but that is also another post. I find that it is extremely different for my best friend who has Medicare primary and United secondary. It all depends and I would check it out very, very well to see what all the conditions are.

Just to explain the difference in myself and my friend are that she and I are both medically retired, however my husband is still employed and hers is retired. She must have Medicare primary and I must have United primary. There is no choice for either of us on how we choose to suplement out Medicare. In both of our cases, we MUST use United because that is what the state chose for us. If we choose to used anything other than parts a/b of medicare, we loose our other insuranc completely and have to start over with a secondary policy that is much more expensive. Even our co-pays and coverages are extremely different because of how our primary and secondary insurance coverages fall.

Hi, sorry you are having such a problem,  my AARP provider is United Health Care, I am in Maryland, my doctor is in Va. he takes both medicare and AARP United Health Care.  In this area, most Doc's who take medicare take AARP UHC, this is due to the fact that most of there patients are either senior's or disabled or in my case both.

If AARP UHC is available to you I would take a look at it, and all others available to you that your doc accepts.

I live in SC, my AARP provider is also UHC. I have had zero problems with either Medicare or AARP/UHC since.

I live in Alabama sorry about not posting that. Mutual of Omaha,US Health,AARP,Health Plans of America,State Farm,BC-BS and many others are available here. I remember they were a alot of choices. Im not expecting anyone to choose for me but I'm really interested in getting the feedback from the HW members. Im pretty new at this and thought this would be a good place to start researching. Your "real life" opinion's is important to me. I believe that learning from others experiences "good or bad" is a great tool to use!
I will be researching these providers the best that I can from both sides. Of coarse any company that sells anything is going to only tell you the stuff that they think you want to hear to buy into it.

I am in Tx & got my husband's supplemental through AARP which is United Healthcare. We have not had any problems with them paying after Medicare pays their 80%.

When I was looking for his I learned each state is different on the supplemental insurance and in some states its not offered. I have no idea what those people do if they stay with regular Medicare.

Like one of the others suggested get on the internet and check the places out. I hope you find one that works well for you.

i just got my first renewal for my aarp/uhc insurance today in the mail. i was please to see that my rate was only going up 70 cents a month for 2013, yet $.70. i think i can handle that, lol.
