My "babies" turning 2 (tomorrow)....

Hey all....

I responded the following to Maryann on her thread.... and realized I totally hijacked it, lol (I don't think she would care...) - but still decided to move it here. So to Maryann and others, here's a quick recap on why I call my twins the miracle babies:

The shortest version I can tell about the girls:

*Wasn't supposed to get pregnant - via many specialists. Because of health issues, pre-menopausal and on down line.
*Obviously, got pregnant.... found out I was having twins.... but I didn't find any of this out until almost 3 months in.
*Could NOT find a doctor that would even touch me and my complicated medical issues and the fact that I was carrying twins. Told by no less than 10 that the best thing would be a medical abortion
*Finally made my way to a specialty hospital who agreed to take on my care
*At 18 weeks, one of the babies showed no fluid around her and lack of growth. Because identical twins are linked to the same placenta, if she died inside of me (and we were guaranteed it would happen) - it would cause neurological damage to the other baby. They wanted us to terminate the struggling baby... in order to save the baby that was doing well... Long story, but prayed about it and just continued on - and put it in God's hands.
*Went on 5 months of bedrest, laying on just left side. Much of that was in the hospital. Had to force down a high protein diet to help w/ the growth of babies - which caused me to gain massive weight. I was miserable.
*Had a very complicated delivery and recovery, followed by a year of post-partum depression...

The girls were born at 36 weeks. None of the docs thought I could make it that long but I did. The girls were 4lb, 8 oz and 5lb, 2oz. They only stayed a week in the NICU - and it was mostly just to be observed. They are perfectly healthy and doing so great.

So... the fact that the three of us (girls and me) survived all of that is why I refer... particularly to them - as my miracles.

Jane - to answer your question, tomorrow they are turning 2. I still just can't believe that.

Also.... I have six boys. I had them when I was young and healthy - and so blessed to have them. I didn't get sick until after the birth of last son. That's why we chose to not have anymore children.... my health and the fact we were told that I couldn't have anymore.

But, these two little girlies were determined to make it to our family!! And, now, can't imagine life w/out them.

Wow what a story! Miracle babies for sure! So they have six older brothers? Those poor girls, LOL :)

And hey, I like hijacked threads! Keeps the convo going even if it is off topic.

Oliver spent two weeks in the NICU because he wasn't sucking and swallowing very well on the bottle nipple. I also had an easy birth. I pushed three times for about five minutes. He slid right out, hehe.

Thanks for sharing your story, Tina! Glad you didn't think I was being nosy! Happy birthday to the girls!!

Wow, wonderful miracle you were blessed with. I want to say enjoy your celebration, and try not to over do it.

Also, did you receive my email? I was hoping we could discuss your anemia in more depth.

I remember when you were pregnant and praying for the babies and you to all be ok!!!

Can't believe it's been two years already! It seems to have passed so quickly..

Hi Tina Your and the girls story still amaze me no matter how many times I read it. They are so adorable. Take care. Have fun and try not to overdo it. I sure hope you have a low pain day and night tomorrow.

Wow, I cannot believe these two years have flown by like they have. I remember all of the struggles too that you were having. Those two little gals are true miracles no doubt. I would love to be a fly on the wall watching you all celebrate their birthday. They are at the age where those strong personalities really come through loud & clear, lol. Would love to be there to celebrate with them.

You will have to come back and give us a rundown on their special day.

Wow! I remember when you were first pregnant with the twins! I'm so happy for all three of you! Have a wonderful day with your kiddos tomorrow! You all have a lot to celebrate!

Congratulations Tina, that really is an amazing thing that all three of you made it through that. I have had a daily struggle trying to take care of my son, but, like you, I couldn't imagine life without him. Such a wonderful blessing to be a parent. I hope tomorrow is a wonderful day for you, and your girls. Take care, and God bless.

Happy Birthday to your little girls. No wonder they mean so much to you. After six boys they truly are miracle babes. That's not to say you boys aren't special too, but two girls after six boys is special.

I am not being nosey Tina, you don't have to answer, but what went wrong to make you sick. You have obviously had, and still have, a pretty rough time with one thing and another. My heart goes out to you. I don't know how you manage it all. You must be super organized and a fantastic mum.

Have a great day with your little ones. You have a lot to celebrate with them.

Hi Jane,

Never feel nosy w/ me :) I don't mind answering any questions.... LONG story short, I had a Hep B Vaccine-reaction while in nursing school - prior to kids. I was really sick for a year. During that year I was so sick, I also had about an 18ft fall onto hard concrete - that I think caused long term damage, though I didn't see it at the time.

Anyhow, got married, started having kids - and I was healthy all those years. During my last pregnancy (with my son).... I started running a daily 100F+ fever, having major heart issues, pain issues and on down the line. Basically none of that has gone away since then (and that son is turn 9).

The doctors think that it was something during that last pregnancy that brought the Hep B Vaccine reaction out of a "remission" state. There's an entire group of health-care workers here on the web that have the exact same health issues that I do that they link back to the Hep B Vaccine, just as an interesting aside.

So, I now have 15 "official" diagnoses - including chronic pain. There are days it's very discouraging, but I just try to do the best I can each day - really all I can do, right?? :)

Tina what a lovely inspirational story you have to share with your beautiful children. I can not imagine how difficult it must have been to be told to make the choices you were asked to. Wrap your arms around your bundles of joy and thank God for them everyday, and give them both a little happy birthday kiss on the tops of their precious heads from this grandma.

I always wondered about your story but never would have guessed this. You are an amazing woman and you are passing that on to all of your children. Thank you for sharing.

Tina my Friend! Gosh it doesn't seem like it has been two years since your "LIL" ones were born! I remember what a hard time you were having and then found out it was because your were pregnant. WOW I can hardly believe that your girls are two already! I hope they have had a very Happy Birthday and I wish you and your family all the very best! Take care my friend........White Beard

Everyone - thank you so much for your sweet words and encouragement. I feel like printing out this thread and putting it w/ their baby stuff. We've always been blessed w/ such an amazing system. And, I have to say - for me, personally, no one compares to all of you. So, thank you.

WB - It doesn't seem like 2 years, does it?? lol. As you know, you were one of the main people listening to me go on and on (and, I know, ON)....about what to do. You know how scared I was in those first days (weeks!)..... and I will always appreciate you being there. You didn't try to give me all the answers... you just listened and encouraged, raised a few issues for me to think about.... Basically, you were just an amazing friend to me. I'll never forget you being there, my friend.

I think of you often. Most days - I don't have time to even breathe, lol.... much less keep up w/ all the people that I wish do. But please know I think about you and I'm only an e-mail away, always. Love, Tina

Yes, I got your e-mail - thank you SO much! I have a "draft" response saved... just haven't finished it. I will tomorrow. Tomorrow morning, I see the GYN Surgeon and will have a better idea about everything.... so it will tie into the things I've already written to you.

I was thinking about you and read the post about the girls 2nd birthday! Wow, time sure flies. It's hard to believe that it's already been two years since their birth.

Despite everything you were told by the doctors, despite all of the dire warnings, things turned out exactly how they should have. I know that all of us here at that time prayed for that......

You and those girls of yours and your family's deserve all of the blessings in life that it can offer, and I for one, hope that you get them......

Thank you for your heart-felt words.  Yes, there were so many here that listened, encouraged and supported me - and you were definitely one of my biggest advocates!  You KNOW there were many days that I wanted to call it a day - and say "Forget This" :)  But those moments were fleeting.... and you always found a way to tell me - you CAN do this. 

Thank you for being so open and honest w/ me... sharing your journey.... and just everything, my friend.  I have these two little miracles - in part, because of being blessed w/ wonderful people like you in my life.

Thank you for the kind words my friend, but I only did what I knew was the right thing. Making the decisions that you were faced with, and doctors who really don't know all that much about opiates and pregnancy ( other than the occassional street drug experience they seem to have) just gave you some of the wrong information. I wanted to let you know that there was another side, one that could be successful if it is handled correctly and your doctors thankfully listened.....

You amazed me then with your strength and your commitment to getting all three of you safely to the other side of pregnancy, and you did it.....As I said, you, and your family deserve all of the blessings in life that it has to offer and I hope that I am around long enough to know that you have....

God bless you, Tina and bless those two miracle babies.  Thanks so much for sharing your story.  It was heartwarming to know that sometimes, it does all go right after all. 

I know you went through a lot to bring those children into this world.  You are a special, special lady.  I admire you for hanging in there when others told you to give up.  You are someone to look up to.
