Hi Beck, I don't know if that's normal after a new hip or not, but it seems possible, since the bursa is just soft tissue that could be irritated by the new hip, although my understanding of Bursitis is very limited, and mostly limited to the shoulder. I know every time I've seen an ortho about my shoulder, they have listed bursitis as one of it's many problems, and its been like that for more than a decade now.
I would also be pretty frustrated with the immediate demand for money, it kinda lets you know where you stand with that drs office, they care, as long as they get paid to. I don't know how your insurance works, but when I had bluecross through work, our broker would hold a meeting with the company every six months to go over the insurance policies, and told us many times that the doctors were not allowed to ask for money upfront. Although I think that was part of a contract with bluecross, but I'm not sure. I would think that there must be some kind of patient help line, or something, that you can call to find out if that is allowed under your doctor's contract.
Hope your not doing too bad today, and that you have better luck getting some answers from your doctor (though I think with the problems you've been having on so many different areas, I personally would be looking for a second opinion). Take care of yourself, and good luck.
