Hi all my deal HW friends,
I have recently had a very detailed and very clear MRI of the C, T, & L spine w/and w/out contrast. At first the technician was all freaked because the Dr ordered contrast images of the t spine because he could not see the need, then, while the test was being administered, he called and received approval to use contrast on all areas of the spine. He would not share the reason at the time and of course did not give me any information as to what he could or could not see. He just said he had very good pictures and the radiologist would send the results to my Dr.....before the test he said 48 hours, then after he said 24 hours, but they were there within 2 hours. I picked up copies of the disc before leaving to keep from having to drive that far again if I needed them, but there were no reports attached.
Yesterday (the day after the test), I went to the PMC and got a copy of the results. Apparently they are divided into segments quite differently than our local hospital and she had read only the bold areas, thinking the others were not problematic. I read the reports and then went to the trusty internet and looked up what was going on. I have multiple serious back issues to be sure, but I never expected the spinal meningioma at T12. I also have some major things at all levels that would cause significant pain and possible additional surgery.
I called the Neurosurgeon this AM and they wanted everything immediately when I told them about the meningioma. Of course, they also need a referral, which I was certainly able to get from my PCP as soon as I called and went in today. She was sooooo upset that she had missed that diagnosis and kept telling me how sorry she was for what I had to deal with. Apparently her father in law has a meningioma on the area near the optic nerve and has had four brain surgeries. She said he now has a large sunken area on his head and his eye is popping out (lovely to hear...I know). She also then told me the new neurologist in town had just returned from California, where he had to go to have his spinal meningioma removed. It was the only place he could have it done with non-invasive surgery because he told her there was nowhere on the East coast that performs spinal meningioma surgery in a non-open surgical procedure.
Ok....so now I am a little upset and a lot scared. I was prepared for the other things (well, at least most of them) and I expected this test to show the reason my pain just isn't being controlled, but I never expected the tumor and I never expected all of this.
If anyone here has had this before, please tell me your story and let me know what to expect.
Thank you my friends.
