I understand Kayla, I really do. It is a frustrating and helpless feeling when it seems like a doctor is shutting us out or just plain not listening. And trust me, that part is not age-related! I am in my 40's and I still have to deal with that. But there ARE good doctors out there, those that practice within the guidelines of the Hypocratic oath (the oath that they ALL swear to uphold, but that so many seem to have forgotten!).
Jim gave you some good advice, especially about dealing with stress. I know how hard it is to handle stress when you are dealing with severe pain. But it really is important to learn good coping skills. Part of that is finding things to do that help distract your mind from thinking about the pain. I do puzzles - crossword, word searches, logic problems, etc. I also do beading. No, it doesn't take away the pain, but it does help distract the brain from thinking of 'Pain, pain, pain'. And every little bit helps - trust me. People are telling you that you are strong and brave because you probably ARE. But sometimes it gets old being strong, I know.
Every time you feel that your ability or desire to keep fighting is wavering - dig a little deeper! I (and many others here) are living proof that things can (and DO) get better. One of the things that every one of us has in common is that we never give up. There are times we feel weak, frustrated, scared, hopeless, and just plain sick of fighting - but we just keep plugging forward! And remember that everything you are feeling is totally normal. Be sure to tell your doctors how you are feeling. Although feeling down and depressed can be a normal 'side effect' of chronic pain, you want to make sure that is all it is.
We are here for you! C:
