Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.
I spoke with AuntKay last night and wanted to give you an update. First off AuntKay wanted me to tell ALL of you that they really appreciate the prayers an well wishes for her and her hubby Chuck.
Well they got the results of the lung biopsy, it is cancer in his lungs. So he has stage 4 liver cancer that has spread to his lungs. His PET scan showed an area that showed up in his small bowel, but he is just recovering from a bad case of C-diff. The Dr felt that may be what's causing that area to look suspicious.
Chuck took the news fairly well, Kay said that he is being positive and will fight to the bitter end. Kay sound like she's holding up alright. While they were there at the treatment center, both Chuck and Kay received massages. Kay can get them for free as long as Chuck is a patient. The therapist set up a regular schedule for a plan to help Kay with her pain issues.
Kay's sister is trying to set up a fundraiser for Chuck. The Dr has prescribes Nexavar (this is a oral chemo) it won't cure Chuck but it will help slow down the growths of the tumor. The problem is that this medication costs $5,000.00 dollars for a 30 day supply. Kay has to pay a copayment of $2,660.00 per month for Chuck to be able to take this medication.
Kay has contacted the drug maker and applied for assistance, still no word back yet. The Cancer Centers of America also have a program for hardship cases. So if the drug company that makes Nexavar denies her request they will try to get it from the Cancer Center of America.
I know Kay is really worried about this as her hubby is on disability, and Kay has been out from work on workers compensation, and they only are paying her 3/4 of her regular wages. She said that it doesn't matter they will get this medication for Chuck. So I hope Kay's sister is able to get this fundraiser set up and they can get some funds that way.
Well, I guess that's all for this update. I speak with Kay often and I will continue to give updates. Please keep Kay, Chuck, and their girls in your prayers.
Hugs,
Barbara
