Nucynta

Hi there...Welcome to HW...I see your intro post on the other thread so will write more on that one...

While we appreciate your thoughts on this medication...we have to be careful about being too negative about something as what works for one person may not for another...

I know quite a few people who are taking Nucynta and it is doing an amazing job for their pain..

Most every single medication will have side effects...Most of these go away within a month or so...

Obviously this is a med that didn't work for you...glad that you switched to something that works better.:)

I think I'm always concerned about all those who read these threads/posts and may be just about to start a new medication...

So I think it's good to hear all sides of it....We appreciate your telling us what your experience was with it...

I had some very strange side effects when I started Ambien..I would jolt awake...but my body was frozen...and I would think I saw someone standing in the doorway...It was surreal!! I also had trouble with eating strange things right before bed when I wasn't hungry at all...

Thankfully these things went away after a month or so and it's now a med I couldn't live without!

I'm glad that you were able to be honest with the Dr. and your wife and got switched to a medication that now works better for you...

Hi Formula, welcome to the forum, I read a bit of your other thread, and am just curious which medication you stopped when you started the Nucynta? I had a great deal of success on this medication, and while there were some mild side effects for the first couple weeks, they passed, and hallucinations was not one of them. The reason why I ask about the med prior to the Nucynta, is that the Nucynta is not a traditional opioid, and if you were taking one prior to it, you would have experienced some withdrawal from the old med, which I think falls more in line with what you experienced, than it being a side effect of the Nucynta. I think this would especially be true if the med you had stopped was methadone, I have no experience with it, but have heard of many problems when people switch off of it.

I am not a medical professional, but just thought about that scenario as a possibility when I read your posts. I don't know if what you experienced was a side effect of the Nucynta, but obviously your doctor pulled you off of it, so it was a big enough concern for him/her as well. I hope you have better luck with your meds in the future, and hopefully don't go through that again, I'm sure it was a creepy experience. Take care, and good luck.
