Hi RM,
If you don't mind my asking, how is your coverage with the permanent stim, vs the trial? Are you noticing any difference? I'm just curious because my neurosurgeon & rep told me after the trial that I'd get even better coverage and relief from the permanent unit. I did find this to be true for me, but I'm just wondering if you also had a similar experience (although my experience could be do in part to the fact that based on my input from my trial, my doc tweaked the positioning of the electrodes some when he put in the permanent implant).
Also, how are you coming along with the whole charging thing? I'm not entirely familiar with your unit (if I remember correctly, it was St. Judes?), as mine is a different brand (Medtronics), but I'm assuming that all-in-all the units are pretty similar. I'm asking because I know that it took me a while to get the hang of things & find out the best way & time to charge. Because my battery is in my chest, I can't wear a charging belt. Instead, I use special sticky pads. They allow me to attach the paddle of my charger directly to the skin over my battery. They are very strong, but gentle, in that they hold the paddle firmly in place, but do not cause any pain or irritation to the skin upon removal.
My guess is that they make similar sticky pads for your charger's unit. I'm telling you this in case it is at all appealing to you. I don't know how well your charging unit stays in place with the belt, or whatever gadget you are using, but the better the connection between charger and battery, the faster the charge. With the sticky pads, I can also charge while I sleep, which is much more convenient that having to find time to set aside to be home, quiet, and charge during my busy day. My rep was actually the one who suggested the charging while sleeping thing, and it works great for me. My charging unit turns off automatically when the battery is full, so I don't have to worry about
waking up or staying up to turn it off, as you cannot overcharge. It might be worth asking your rep about
next time you meet or speak with him. Of course you wouldn't want to use the sticky pads until your incision is fully healed. Just a thought. Feel free to take it or leave it. I just want to help in any way that I can!
