My best advice to you is to go see a Nephrologist. This is a specialist in treating kidney disease. If you do not know the reason for the CKD you need to find out and find out what can be done to control the cause. I do know that diabetes is a common cause but it is not the only one.

I do know that doctors recommend limiting NSAIDS (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen,etc), protein consumption, salt intake, and sodas.

Lisinopril is often prescribed to help protect the kidneys. This medication is often also prescribed to treat high blood pressure.

Anyway as I mentioned first off you need to go see a specialist ASAP. Stage 3 CKD is advanced and needs to be addressed promptly.

Loretta, I remember you mentioning something about this a year or so ago. If you will remember I had told you I had to go off of Fentanyl patches because of problems it was causing. Once I went off of the patches everything cleared up. I hope you will do as the others have suggested and get in to see a specialist. Some may or may not require a referral, considering how your dr drags her feet on everything I would work around her & find a specialist & see if you can be seen without a referral.

Thank you all for the advise. I really do appreciate it. I do have Type 2 diabetes, so I guess that has caused it. I didn't even know what the specialist was called that specializes in kidney disease. I'll get working on that Monday. I knew I could count on you guys to help me.

Hopefully you will get in to see a Nephrologist so they can come up with a good treatment plan.

The great news is that at this stage it can absolutely be slowed down greatly or even reversed with diet and exercise and the better you mange your diabetes (glucose levels) and/or high blood pressure, the better your kidneys will function.

I don't think that you smoke but just so people realize that this can cause kidney problems as well.

It's imperative to get a dietician involved which you should be referred to by your Nephrologist. They will help design an eating plan that is suited to your particular lab levels and overall needs.

So, just like type 2 diabetes and even high blood pressure, our kidney function is either helped or harmed by diet and exercise or lack thereof.

My mom has both diabetes and hbp and started getting alarming levels of her kidney function and this scared her greatly as her mom died of complications due to kidney disease. So she still has a long way to go, but so far has lost 60 pounds which reversed her kidney numbers so that she only has to be monitored every 6 months now.

So....we are all rooting for you and hopefully getting with the right Drs. and dietician you can get things back to a better level!

I will be calling my insurance company Monday and see which nephrologist will take the medicaid.

I sure hope that I can get something to slow down the kidney disease. I've been drinking quite a bit of water today, thinking that that might help until I can see a doctor.

I'm so upset that my doctor didn't tell me that I have the kidney disease. It seems that this is nothing to fool around with. :(
