A small vent to my last post of losing 3-doses of my fentanyl patches falling off

Well Randy you may just have cut your own nose off to spite your face!! I know you read here what we post and how many times have you heard us go on a rant to others about NOT taking anything but what your prescribed at that moment.

Yes you messed up big time and yes you could lose your meds and your Dr. You put her in a really really bad place after she has gone above and beyond to help you Look how many here dont get meds or cant get a DR to even help them. She has written early for you,covered patches that you "say" have fallen off and Im not doubting you just saying she is taking your word for this stuff. She has been nothing but fair to you and now you have put her in a position where if she keeps you as a patient with that dirty urine she is risking the wrath of the DEA and being put on the DRs to watch list,had you died for some reason or suffered any undue effects from mixing meds like Fent,oxy and methadone together she certainly could have lost her right to practice medicine at all and at the least they would have sanctioned her prescribing lic.

You have put her between a rock and a very very hard place and she is going to have to look at whether she can actually afford to keep someone who does not follow the guidelines or keeps the contract. If she doesnt discharge you then you are one lucky fellow and please play the lottery for me!!

In the last few months she has dealt with alot that blurs the line with you as a contract PM patient and you didnt respect her enough to not do something that could inevitably now cause her all kinds of trouble.

Sorry for the rant and rage but dear its things like this that stop good Drs from treating PM patients.

Wow, But you guys are right....the only thing I cared about was not feeling bad and when it came to that anything else feeling better won. I am going to see her in about an hour to drop another urine.(CLEAN)and I hope to put this behind me. Everything you guys mentioned is what she said to me..thanks for wake up call. I've lived with this for a week and it's been driving me crazy,this will not happen again...Thanks Randy

I think this whole thing brought a really good topic to light though.

Just because we have left over meds, doesn't mean we can fall back on them if we feel like we need them.

On the surface, it might not seem that bad. --You were taking meds prescribed to you, because you thought the others were out of your system, they're not expired, and I'm going to assume they were written by your current dr?--

But in reality, it ended up being a really messy situation, that could(ve) gotten you and your dr in big trouble.

The leftover meds in the medicine cabinet are no longer fair game.

I'm still a bit confused in the part where in another post you mention getting your January prescriptions at your appt. on Tuesday the 15th....But here you are saying you were all out of patches by Jan. 31st...

So I don't understand the numbers as that would have you running out within 16 days! As you get 30 patches every 30 days..(prescription is 2, 100mcgh patches every 48 hours)

You had also written back in October of your upcoming joint replacement surgery within a few months (shoulder surgery)...so was curious when this surgery is set for?

I have to say that I have never understood this Drs. prescribing over these last 6 plus months as they have gone from saying that you absolutely can't take more than 360mg of Morphine equivalent a day max and put you down all the way to 60mg of Methadone. Then she moved up your Methadone...Then switched you to Exalgo and MSIR, the back to Methadone.

Then all the way to 200mcgh of Fentanyl every 48 hours with MSIR 30mg, 4 times a day for BT!!! I know you stopped halfway through the month with the MSIR saying it didn't work and didn't want to go on Oxycodone as you said you needed it for surgery....but wound up again with the Oxycodone.

My point in listing all of this is that I wouldn't doubt your Dr. is being very carefully watched by the state and/or the DEA as they have been all over the place without a rhyme or reason and have allowed you to early fill your Fentanyl patches these last months. You wrote to us even back in Dec. when you first started them that they were falling off and we all told you to CALL your Dr. and keep the patches and what to do to make them stay on....

So this is why I don't see how all of a sudden close to 15 patches all "fell off" this last time around?

I think you are very lucky that they didn't dismiss you and we are not trying to scold you or belittle you here...I'm just worried about this trend. You had written another thread awhile back that you didn't like the Fentanyl patches at all as you have been on them before and that you absolutely prefer the Methdadone so if you are having so much trouble with the patches...I don't see why you switched in the first place?

As Mrsrm asked...did you tell your Dr. BEFORE the urine test that you had taking the Methadone and Oxy or after they called you with the results?

I would think that if you absolutely stopped the Methadone on Feb. 4th when you picked up the new patches then with the sophisticated urine analysis they should be able to see this and get you back on track...
