Without going into all of the unnecessary details that I did the first time- I got sick in late October again, my usual fall pneumonia that seems to hang around for a bit too long.....wound up with a nasty anaphylactic reaction to the antibiotic, and made a visit to the ER . I called my PCP the next morning needing another antibiotic since the previous day they wanted to hospitalize me. They refused to change it unless I came in for the fourth time in a little less than a week....
Anyway. I wound up changing my doctor because of the run around I was getting. After I finally shook the pneumonia, the new doctor decided that it was time for a complete physical, and sent me for blood work, an updated ultrasound on my thyroid which had some nodules but hasn't been checked again for 10 years, a mammo (last one in 2007), colonoscopy, etc. bone density test....
Went for bone density, and ultrasound of thyroid, and mammo all on the same day.....two days later, he calls me and tells me that the thyroid ultrasound found not only the old nodules, which grew some but looked okay, but another additional one that wasn't there previously- it is hypoechoic, and has arterial blood flow- wants a biopsy of it done asap, and oh, you have osteopenia, and you need to have your mammo films redone and they also want bilateral ultrasounds of both breasts.....okay, I tried really hard not to freak out- bone density, is not good but workable, two biopsies, not so much.....
I went for the thyroid biopsy on Thursday of last week- finally got the results back this past Thursday morning- apparently, they completely missed the thyroid , let alone the lesion and didn't have one thyroid cell in the specimins they took.....so I need to get it redone. The doctor wants me to wait a week or so since my throat was a bit bruised from having the first one done and he feels that since they would have to go in the same way they did the first time, he wants to give my thyroid some time to heal....but only a week or two.
Later Thursday night, I got a call from the pathologist who examined the stereotactic biopsy they did on Friday. Apparently, the microcalcifications they are suspicious of, have doubled in number and are clustered when they were not previously. There is however no lump or mass in the area . I went from a Birads category 0- to category 4- suspicious in the matter of a day...... anyway, the biopsy from the stereotactic didn't have the microcalcifications in the samples they took so I have to return on Tuesday to have it redone. If they don't get it this time, then my doctor is wanting me to have an open biopsy...
So if anyone of you are feeling so inclined a few prayers for Tuesday would be greatly appreciated. If I read about this happening to someone , I would be skeptical. How often do we hear about someone having not only one biopsy where they miss the tissue they want to biopsy but for it to happen twice , on the same day , to one person, in two different areas? The odds must be astronomical.....
