PM put me on Lyrica

My PM doc gave me a script for Lyrica.  Twice a day.  I didnt start taking it yet.

 

Has anyone taken this drug.?  It has many side effects.   I am apprehensive about the drug.

…yes!…I'm currently on it, and have been for the last 3 weeks or so. My dose has been 50mg X2, a starting dose! However I'm now out of it, and if I didn't know any better, I would say I can tell a difference. I had not planned on this, but my Dr appointment was canceled yesterday, and rescheduled for this next Monday. I cant wait, and am going to ask for the dose to be doubled.

Please give this med some time to enter your system…say maybe 3 weeks, and if you have an inkling that it is working, then see if he will up the dose. By the way!…what dose are you on?

I have noticed no real side effects with this med. However as you know, we are all different, so you will have to wait and see how it effects you.

Take care, and I hope for your sake it helps! Also,... stay positive about it, and I'm guessing that you may indeed have some nerve damage.

Hi Betsey,I am also on the lyrica and have been for a year. I had trouble with the cymbalta and neurontin though and not with the lyrica.

Like Michael says you have to give it a shot and it takes a good few weeks to get into your system. Side effects most people complain about are brain fog and some dizziness early in treatment.

Just be observant and make sure your family knows to watch for anything out of the ordinary in case you don't realize it.

It won't show a drastic change out of the gate and like Michael many dont notice it helped until they run out or stop it.

Oh, nightmares while your awake,morbid thought is the other complaint I have seen a lot. All go away the longer your on it.

My dosage is 50 mg twice a day. I will start it on wednesday when I dont have to drive anywhere. Monday I need to drive 1 hour away and then 1 hour back home and on tuesday a drs appt 30 min away and Im not sure exactly where he is located at so i need a clear mind.

This weekend is racing on friday and sat night so off we go in the rv with our 2 dogs and then sunday is easter so Im cooking a ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, and applesauce and doing laundry and empting out the rv.

I really hope that the Lyrica can put a good dent in the nerve pain! I was on Cymbalta for a few years and it worked very well for me. So as mentioned, it's all about trial and error as what works for one person may/may not for another.

My wife was on Lyrica for quite a while until IL medicrap wouldn't cover it anymore. When she first went on it she had some very mild nausea that lasted only 2-3 days and that was the only side effect she ever mentioned. BTW she was started at 75mgx2.

Betsey, I'm at the same dose as you. I sure hope it helps you as you have suffered for a very long time with little relief. Again, if you see little or no relief...I would suggest that you let him raise the dose before giving up on it. I have done this with all of the nerve medications.

I see many patients giving up on a med because they see no relief on the starting dose. It may be that the starting dose will not help much, but a higher one will...and I hate to see a patient give up when they could have had relief, ...if they would only stick with it and get to the higher doses.

...now if the side effects are too great for you, then that may be another story, but then again...some of them may go away after a bit. Sometimes we have to be patient...and then you can decide if it's for you or not.

Lryica had so many side effects on me so I called my PM doc.  He weaned me off of it.  So now I take over the counter antiinflammatories.  no narcotics for me yet.

I tried for 2 1/2 weeks of vomiting,rash,facial swelling so an allergic reaction. and more side effects, etc. shocked

I am on medicare now because it has been a year since my ss disability checks started.  Im waiting for the supplemental insurance to start.  End of the month.  Then I can get a bone scan, xrays and bloodwork done.

my spouse has been on lyrica now for 5 years, she is on a very high dosage of it too. its at around 475mg per day. She does get the brain fog, but nothing else on side effects. Its a great drug for nerve pain so Im so sorry you had a reaction!

Have you tried gabapentin? its used a lot for nerve pain, fibromyalgia and crps/rsd.

I tried gabapentin and I gained 60 lbs. Once I was off of it I lost 55 lbs in 6 months. This tuesday I go to a hospital and have a bone scan, xrays, and blood work for arthritis. Then the following tuesday I go back to the ortho doc to get the results.

Im worried as to what they wll find. I will let you know what I find out.

I took 1 Lyrica and threw up for 24 hour, every hour almost on the hour I threw up I ended up so close to going to the ER due to dehydration from throwing up so much, I will never ever try this medication ever...
So very sorry you had a reaction to it...

Barametric pressure is changing and rain is moving in. need to drain the hot tub and put fresh water in it and then I can soak in it

I really hurt today. I managed to put pork and sauerkraut in the oven and I peeled potatoes for mashed potatoes.

I got notification thru the mail today that I have until next thursday to call my elecrite provider and tell him of our finanical problems. So I did and I got $100 a month off of my electric bill for 12 months. That will help.

I went to a christained based business that stocks food for the needy and we qualified for food twice a month for 6 months and bread, and fresh vegies once a week. That has been helping us.

I talked to the promotor of the friday night track about me wanting to help him out in the scoring tower when a scorer wanted off but no luck yet. No additional income yet.

Maybe I can get a parttime companion job and see how I feel after working 4 hours a day at $14 an hour.
