Everything setup for PICC line insertion.. But my nerves are shot....

The home health company is going to work with me $60 a month until payed off. I go in on Monday 5/13/13 @8:30-prep and 9:00am insertion. But now that it's all set up I am having second thoughts plus extreme anxiety. I've been hospitalized at least 30-times and have had chest tubes,all types of biopsies-central lines a million I.V's and now all of a sudden I have this feeling of DOOM. Have you guys felt this way. I mean my whole life has revolved around medical treatments for the last 7+yr's I've been stuck with so many needles and had so many bronchoscopies and other oscopies I can't even count them any more... Has anybody felt this way.. It just seems to be such a pain in the butt to have to get up at 6am and go to the medical center then have to deal with RN for 2 weeks (Vancomycin for 2-weeks) and just everything that goes with it.

Hey Randy --

Have I felt that way? In short, yes, a zillion times. I have a really complicated medical history including all the things you spoke off (multiple hosp. stays, biopsies, been on a vent a couple of times, etc etc).

I just had a VAP (power port) put in my chest.... I felt the same anxiety but knew I had to do it -- and now that I'm on the other side, I'm so thankful that I did.

I'm sorry you have to go in for a PICC.... but it's the way to go if you need meds for 2 weeks....

Hang in there w/ everything.... and just try to focus on the fact that you are getting the treatment that you need. I know it can get really frustrating, though...

Hi Randy and like Tina I too have done this.

I think as we age its natural to become more in tune with our mortality and that opens doors for all the what if this goes wrong or that goes wrong. I know the benefits outweigh the risk but yet those thoughts linger and cause anxiety.

I also think the longer we are in this CP life the more times we feel like we've had enough. I've seen times I've thought not one more poke,not one more surgery, not nothing. I'm done!

I work that period off by remembering why I keep doing it. How those who care about me need me to hope.

They are doing the picc line because its safer and more efficient and necessary in treating you the best they can and if you keep that in mind you will be done and over with it in no time.

I feel that way with every procedure I have ever had done.

I can just imagine how I am going to feel when it comes time to get those artery bypasses done.

Thanks again for all of the input and positive advice.. I will post my results sometime tomorrow when it's done..

Randy you will do fine. Like you said its just your nerves messing with you right now and thats normal. I had a Port put in several years ago & loved it. Boy it made my life so much easier. Hang in there & keep us posted....Susie
