Looking at the video right now on the news...It is devastating!!!
The town they are focusing on is Moore, Oklahoma.
I am definitely praying for everyone...this is going to have a high fatality rate unfortunately as the area looks like Joplin did back in 2011..

Such a powerful reminder to try to find the joy and good in each moment -- because life can change instantly.
Continuing to pray for all of those affected..... My heart aches.

They are now saying that it's possible there are up to 2 dozen children that aren't accounted for from the Elementary school....
I know that reports can be unreliable at this stage of recovery and praying that this is the case and these numbers are not this high!! The local reporters are even breaking down crying while they are covering this story right now.

the news there gets worse by the hour, 51 dead, 20 are children, and many more missing and presumed dead. OK is my home state, as I was born in Tulsa. They say even more dangerous storms may develop in the area tomorrow, I hope and pray that doesn't happen.

David, Michael and I were just talking about
this a few nights before when his search for ATVs took him into OK. I lived in Miami OK and Broken Arrow for 7 years. Not far from Tulsa.
One of the reasons I moved was the Tornados.
I'm so sad to see the numbers of children that are missing and dead. They said that there were 2 elementary schools about
a mile apart. They reported they had 30-40 minutes of warning and that both schools did exactly the right safety steps and every child was inside wall on floor with heads covered, remember this drill, but this tornado was at such a level it didnt matter. They said the only safety from it was underground and without the amount of warning far more fatalities would have occurred.
One survivor talked about
a full grown horse actually flying around above him. I can't even imagine such a thing.
My heart aches for everyone and especially the parents still waiting to hear.

Vickie:
You said Miami, OK? Wow, that is where my father was born, and where he went to high school. He played for their football team way back when dinosaurs still roamed the earth. He grew up on a farm in Welch, OK, which is near Miami. Small world really.
I haven't even been back to OK since the early 80's, after my grand mother's funeral. The family farm was sold off years ago, it was offered to me, but at that time, why would a young guy want 160 acres of farm land.
Both my grand parents were born in OK when it was still called the Indian Territories.
My great grand father came over from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and got the land for free during the great Land Rush in OK.

This is so devestating. I wish I could help out in some way... I've watched the video of Barbara Garcia several time (the woman that finds her dog in the rubble during an interview) and I cry every single time.
You know, we think we have problems and then something like this happens and it makes you count your blessings. I will be donating to the Red Cross or someone; it's not much but I have to do something.
Praying for all those affected. :-(

I see the official death count has been lowered by more than half, but then there are still more than 40 missing, still terrible in any event.

Yep Miami it is. I still have family scattered out there and my 2 children that are 2/3 Delaware retain a few acres of original land granted to their Dads family way back during the removal of tribes to OK. Those are actually in White Oak which is between Vinita and Tulsa off the great highway 66.
They have no desire to live there and we left OK in 2001. The properties of course have to remain in the family and can't be sold to non-native people outside the tribe. It really is a desolate place out there and dealing with well water and septic systems isn't either one of themselves cup of tea. Both houses are basically now run down Indian housing and would cost more to make habitable then they were ever worth.
Family is buried there so someone keeps up the property and at least they will always have it if they needed to use it.
I never got used to Oklahoma and the weather. Miami so close to Kansas that the winds blew thru there at tornado levels way too much for me. I actually had 2 of my surgeries at the Joplin hospital that was destroyed by the last big tornado up that way.
Very small world indeed.

My nieces house is in a subdivision of some 62 homes . . . hers was the only one left standing. Her husband grabbed the dog and turtle and laid in the bathtub, fortunately my niece and her 5 kids were at a church supper. This was in Granbury, TX. Their roof will have to be replaced as well as all the windows but you should have seen the other homes, I don't know what to make of it . . . Q

For those who wish to help the animals you can go to Central OK Humane society /help the animals of Moore.
Also the Denver paper had a really nice list of legitimate organizations and how to make sure your money and items get to Oklahoma.

Thankful that the actual death toll turned out to be 24. Obviously one life is too many...but it could have been so much worse when you see how bad the destruction is. It's amazing so many people survived.
I think what made the difference was it being a Monday...a work day, so not as many people were in their homes as opposed to the Joplin, MO tornado (two year anniversary today) was a Sunday.
On the other side though, is that children were in school and we lost some little ones. The stories of all the bravery of the teachers, the first responders, and just everyone in general rushing to help their fellow man are so moving to see.
